custom subwoofer boxes

Can you design me one that fits in under the centre console, after removing the rear heater? Im thinking 2x6" speakers would fit in there. One facing the driver, one the passenger. Not sure how the harmonics would work though. I like that idea, kinda hidden and secret almost, hahah.

Ive seen it before on this site. Not sure how they did it but it was just 1 "sub" maybe 10" inside the console. The amp would be under the seat or somewhere. Yes it would be muffled but maybe some holes drilled into the side of the console.

The main purpose of it was not the highest quality sound, just that it was hidden away and came from the centre of the truck as opposed to the back.

I dont think it would muffle too bad, most people stick their subs in the boot (trunk) of their cars which would be even more muffled.
 
You would have a god awful sound stage if your mids (mid bass) in the center console... Idealy, you want your tweets and mid-range on the dash at head level. Your mid-bass should be in the doors or kick panels. It's a lower freq so having those below head level won't affect your staging. And subs, they can be put anywhere without any real affect of distortion.

If you're good with fiberglass you can easily put some 6's in your kick panels or doors.

I'm saying that in order to have a good sounding front stage, you want your midrange and tweeters at head level, no higher and no lower. That doesn't mean that every stereo needs to be different for someone who is 5'10" or 6'0". The two inches isn't going to make much of a difference unless you have some bad @$$ ears.

All I was referring to with the midbass in the center console is that the accoustics will not be that good, you'll only get sound from one side of the vehicle (in a sense) because you will have both midbass speakers playing from your right side. There won't be any alignment there. That is why they would be best in the kicks or doors. If your amp doesn't have any time alignment (most do not) then the kicks are the best place for them. You want both speakers to be the same distance from the drivers seat. You obviously cannot do that so you move the driver side speaker as far away from the driver as possible then place the passenger side speaker in the same place, this will give you the least difference in distance.

Cutting the door for a speaker isn't a big deal, as long as you're careful and know what you're doing. You obviously don't want to put a speaker somewhere where the magnet is going to hit the window.

You were also talking about the heat, the little bit of heat that a heat duct will produce isn't enough to mess up a speaker.
 
Sorry I didn't suggest this earlier, I can't see photobucket pictures at work. Instead of wrapping the box in glass then adding resin, why not wrap the box in a fleece material first? That way you can stretch the material over your frame, staple it in place then apply resin. There won't be any sagging that way and all the curves will look more uniform. Plus, doing it that way you can cut the glass mat into pieces and apply them individually so either type of glass (weave or woven) is easy to apply.

No just the sub coming from the centre console.
