I have an 03 SE V8 4x4 withe JBL audio system. As is common, my subwoofer sound like its in tatters.

What replacement subwoofer is the best choice sound and power-wise and won't need modification to fit it? My gleaned knowledge from reading several threads is that it 8" subwoofer, dual-voice-coil, 2 ohm, shallow build i.e. less than 3".

Thank you in advance!

Which is a better choice....

Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 8" Dual 2-Ohm Punch Series Shallow Mount Car Subwoofer

or

PIONEER A-Series TS-A2000LD2 8” Subwoofer – 700W Max, Shallow-Mount Design

????!

I assume you're looking to drop in a sub and utilize the existing amp, touching nothing else. In which case the below info isn't helpful, but since I typed it up before realizing what you're trying to do, I'll post because maybe it helps someone else.

EDIT: Just confirmed I did a JL Audio 8W1v3-4 in the stock sub box. Required minor trimming in the deepest part of the box with a dremel to fit. Ran a new wire to a 5 channel amp I installed under the passenger seat. Some links I found that I think I referred to do this job almost a decade ago:

Pics are dead, but I think this might have been the thread that put me onto that model: Replaced JBL Sub/Added Amp: Install Pics/Info

Thank you!

Yes, just replacing the speaker in the original equipment.

After much searching, I did order a Pioneer 8" from Amazon...$100...seems many have used this as the replacement and it has good frequency range. We'll see what modifications it will require. I think at least I'll need to add mounting holes.

I went with the rockford, I want to say the pioneer was unavailable when my factory one blew.

Fastening the sub to the plastic factory box is super easy, just apply a little force and the screws will probably make their own holes as needed. And if you want to make the wiring super easy, the adapter here matches our factory subwoofer connectors and has been working perfectly for 4 years now. Amazon.com
