CV axles fronts

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. The previous poster needs to provide proof that they all come from the same crap factory. The NAPA brand is tried & true here for many miles. If you want to deviate from that go ahead but I hate doing a job twice.

Guess who makes NAPA's CV axles? Cardone industries.

If you think Cardone has two separate production lines for these CV axles, I have a seat for you in Business 101.

You may not like doing a job twice, but you sure seem to like paying twice as much for the same part.

Now, I will concede that the one NAPA sells is the one with the more robust boot. But even then, RA sells it for approximately $75 cheaper a pair. RA sellss the regular Cardone for $48 and the heavy duty for $70 a piece.

I replaced mine with Cardone from a local parts store because there was no Core charge for them, so I got to keep my OEM cv shafts.

They are sitting in my garage with torn boots, but are otherwise still in fine condition as far as I can tell. I may put them up for sale on here at some point because I know the off-road enthusiasts are hungry for them.

Great find, In my research all I could find was speculation the MaxDrives were made by Cardone. I paid $88 & the Napa store is only 10min from my house so I'll stick with the brick & mortar for ease of warranty & great parts guys.

So just to give a little more info here. I did CV axles on my new to me 4th gen this weekend. I went with Carquest (Advance Auto) because I had a coupon a discount code that got my cost to $50 an axle. The Carquest axles are made in China. Comparing them to the OEM axles shows that the OEM axles have beefier housings and larger boots:

I nicked the boot on the driver's side axle on install so I will take it back out in a few weeks and test the Carquest warranty on them.

For whatever its worth, the passenger side was pretty smooth and easy, but the drivers side was murder. I ended up disconnecting the upper bj, the sway bar, removing the caliper and ABS wiring and taking off the knuckle to have room to get some force going to seat the axle in the differential. The accordion effect of on the CV axle tore a small bit in the boot. :mad2:

The Advance Auto axles dont have the little edges that allow you to put a punch on and knock out the axle. The housing is smooth and when I go to remove it, I know its going to be a nightmare. I would gladly go with the NAPA ones if I knew they had the little edges.
