I am not a mechanic but want to get into good car care habits so yesterday I slid underneath the front end of my newly returned to my custody 90 4runner to do a routine inspection of the underside and - bammo- the left front tire outer CV boot was all ripped up.
I still see lots of grease in there and I did not notice it ever before over the last week so I think it juts happened yesterday.
I took it in to a shop to just have all 4 replaced.
Gardner Automotive. Corpus Christi, Texas.
Parts seemed about like last time, $13+/-.
Thee said it would be 3 hours labor.
I also am having them rotate the tires, (new tires were just put on 12000 miles ago). Also, oil and filter and lube the chassis.
QUESTION: Should I have them do the ball joint dust covers and other rubber items as well since they are already partially disassembling in that area I guess? The dust covers looked OK but replacing them before they die is the object of PM, right?
QUESTION: Any other birds I should have them kill with the same stone with the front end being kind of partially disassembled?
Thanks.
90 V6 M/T 4Runner.
I bought it new in 90.
Gave to my Dad in 96.
I went overseas in the military 96-07.
Dad was 81 & passed away July 07.
The 4runner is mine again.
136000 miles.
