CV Boot rip

Went to get my brakes checked this week and found out that I have a rip in my right front CV boot (the one not closer to the body that does not turn with the wheel) which is spewing grease. The dealership suggested that I just go ahead and replace the entire axle piece (since it is a 4WD). The OEM part is around $500 and the labor will run about $350 for 3 hours. An after market producer makes them for $270. These prices sound really high to me, but I have never had to do this fix before. Read that its better to stay with OEM parts. Also, do I run any risk of damaging anything else driving around on it as is? The tear is about an inch long that runs around the boot, not across it.

Anyone have experience dealing with this?

I just did both of my cv shafts this week...It started out with just buying OEM replacment boot reduild kits from toyota...$35.00 plus my local shop to install..he said about $300 labor for both sides..it calls for about 2.5 hrs per side to remove and re-install....when he took them out he said it will be better to replace the entire shaft since he had to remove them anyway...same labor...used aftermarket parts they were about $99 each side...

on a side note..i should have went to the dealer...cause my shop (which is usually pretty ggod) did not put the passenger shaft in all the way causing a messy leak for 3 days untill i got it back in to have it rectified.
