I like to think the inside and outside joints were designed by two separate teams at Toyota, and they have an office pool to see which will last the longest. Maybe the winning team gets free land cruisers. They use different grease, different rubber (one is rubber, and one is a special material), and different clamps.

Honestly, once I found out that my 4runner (like all the V6s) came with one brand of spark plug in one bank and another brand in the second bank I quit questioning the quirks like the different greases. Apparently my parents were right and sometimes the answer really is 'Because.'
