CVJ CV Axels Group Buy?????

Anyone interested in doing a group buy for CV Axels?

They have some options as far as boots go, either the normal Hytrel Plastic($10-15) or silicone($30-45)

They claim to have stronger then OEM CV axels with a limited lifetime warranty on the axels. There normal price for our 3rd gens is $84 each, $50 core each, $18 shipped (each axel)

They're willing to do a group buy once they can get a head count for how many are interested.

yeah let me do some thinking and figuring things out in the next week or so and ill let you know, but im leaning in the yes direction. ill have to find some bad ones to send back as cores though, as mine are still in good shape!
 
So I am looking at 132 to 147 per axle for silicone shipped plus a 50 dollar core charge? I assume that will get refunded to me once I mail back my old ones. I may be down especially if we can get some sort of discount. Are the silicone much better than OEM?
 
I had my factory CVs re-booted by them. The silicone boots do NOT work on the outer CVs, they will rub on things. I had them on my inner CVs and they must have rubbed on something because I got holes in the first 1500 miles.

This is what they looked like when I picked them up.

So somewhere at about 1000 miles into my road trip the red silicone boots started puking grease. I pulled them out and took them back to CVJ. They felt that the boots rubbed part of the frame and wore holes in them. I'm not sure how because there isn't anything within an inch or more. The silicone boots are very flexible so maybe they stretch and swing off center and MAYBE rub. They re-booted them with the standard boots (neoprene) at no charge. Thank you CVJ.

I may be interested in purchasing two axles, but I'm wondering what specifically would make their axles stronger than OEM. Also, I'd like to know more about the issues Gerdo had. I would want to know for sure the same thing wouldn't happen again. Thanks!
 
The neoprene are the basic replacements for stock. They are doing great.

The silicone are so soft that the Centrifugal force causes the boot to rotate off center which allows it rub on frame parts.

The killers for boots are rubbing on themselves and other parts and old age.

My friend has been working with CVJ to "build a better axle". They are using a stronger cage. I don't believe that the axles you are looking at are with these stronger cages. They up the cost.
 
I am interested in the group by. While fitting 285's yesterday I saw both innner CVs were torn.:mad:

If we can come to a consensus as to which combo is the best ofr our runners, let's get this group buy going.
 
Good idea to put together a group buy. Feel free to drop my name if you want. Other local wheelers have gotten a discount by mentioning my name. It won't hurt that's fore sure!

Here's a THREAD LINK to the CV with the "stronger components" they must have been talking about. As far as I know the only thing stronger is the cage and race parts that I've been working with them on to have machined up. Unless they are talking about tempered 4000 series steel for replacement parts that might have a slightly higher tensile strength? I kinda doubt that though.

The prototype CV has a new high angle silicone inner boot which I'm stoked about . Torn boots are lame.

Just a question. Why do they want the old CV's? If theirs are stronger then the original they cannot make the originals stronger then they are and sell them again as they are what they are in material specs.
It sounds like they are seling reconditioned CV's and just making a claim with warranty that is not accurate. I am not suggesting not to buy them, just think about their claim which makes no sense.

O man,

I just bought 2 axles from CVJ about a month ago. Wish I could of got the discount! Although PikeMan basically installed them for me at the SO CAL group ride in June. (again many many thanks PikeMan) Now I have the knowledge to help someone else out if they need it. Or do a repair for my truck:thumb3:

The ones I received are remanufactured and holding up great so far. Knock on wood. Even got the core charge back very quickly from CVJ after shipping.

I would be into getting a spare for the hills.

And Glen I'm looking forward to the skid mounts for the rear control arms!!

I have one CVJ axle up front right now. I have the red silicone boots both inner and outer and havent had any problems with them. they are pretty close to a few things but as far as i can tell they havnt actually contacted anything. I also got the upgraded HD Inner High Angle Joint. I got it about a year ago now.
my cheap Chinese knock off cv axle on the other side has quite a bit of play in the joints now so i would be interested in a group by as well.
 
Basically 10 buyers, buying a left and right plus inner and outer boots is where they will do a decent price break. The last time I posted this no one was interested.
 
Aww, makes sense. So far I count 5 guys interested...we need more. I've been throwing around the idea of getting OEM CV's and CJV boots

I'm only interested for about another week. If nothing happens before then, I'll have to go with a different option. Sorry to bail on everyone!

I think you might be misunderstanding. Or I could be misunderstanding your post? The grammar/typos made it a little hard to understand.

CVJ didn't make any claims that the OEM rebuilds are stronger. The reman axles are just that, remanufactured axles. I can verify that they are not stronger than stock as I have broken many of them.

The stronger CV that you might be thinking of is a personal project of mine to replace the cage and race on the outer joint. It'll probably be known as a Lotus upgraded axle and those are far more expensive for the outer joint upgrade. Price for those will likely be $450 each. It's a pretty high cost increase for an outer joint improvement but if for the wheelers that break CVs often it might be justifiable.
