TRD Skid Plate Fix or Father's Day "I Told You So"
Last weekend I took my 4runner in for its 30K service a little early because we are doing are biannual trip up to Maryland to visit family starting this Friday. So in preparation I removed my skid plates…except the back passenger driver side bolt on the TRD Skid was stuck.
Here is how I fixed it...I know [MENTION=103267]Saker[/MENTION]... I should have just done this with the initial install!

Lamin-X Fog Light Covers 6/22/17
Been wanting to install these for a while, finally ordered them for a Father's Day gift to myself. I've wanted to change up the Fog Illumination to a yellow light wavelength (to cut through low visibility weather better), but wanted something DOT legal and I don't need the extra lumens from the aftermarket kits. Luckily they got here in time to install before we leave for our bi-annual road-trip to Maryland tomorrow.
Lamin-X T649Y cut outs. Perfect size, easy install in less than 20 mins. Edges fit perfectly under the fog light covers and right to the edge of the clear lens. They were having a sale on Amazon..$14.95 if you time it right.

We have done ok here, not so much for the peeps to the east and to the west....
We are in an area where is storm happens to be pulling in dryer air and we have done remarkably well...not much rainfall to speak of.

Alaska Trip 7/1/2017 – 7/10/2017
I’m posting this trip, just because it was so awesome. Unfortunately it was not completed in my 4runner, but we did drive my Sister-in Law’s 2013 SR5. I would love to say we drove up to Alaska, but at this stage of our lives with two kids 5 and 2, we are just not prepared and/or have the time to drive cross-continent from South Florida.
The trip: When my sister-in-law and her family moved to Anchorage last year they asked how often they think we could realistically visit them. We gave them a safe estimate of every 18-24 months. So we planned this summer as our first visit. They are avid climbers and outdoors people and had a bucket-list trip they wanted us to join them on…to drive down to Homer, AK, take a ferry across to Kachemak Bay State Park and stay off the grid in a Yurt. In October of 2016 we started planning the trip and it ended up being an incredible experience.
We flew into Alaska on July 1st, my wife and I’s 10th Anniversary. July 2nd was prep and loading up the vehicles, a 2013 SR5 and 2006 Subaru Outback (yes it seems everyone in our family has a Subaru or 4runner as we have a 2012 Outback as well). 2 cars we needed as we needed to bring in all of our supplies and we had 3 kids in car seats (our 2 kids and their 5 year old daughter) as well as their 8-month-old 85lb Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. July 3rd we drove out to Homer, which was a 5-hour drive around and through the Kenai Peninsula. We stayed at the Lands-End resort at the end of the Homer Spit, which gave us a view across the bay of Kachemak Bay State Park.
Homer is a cool Alaska fishing town, with more Overland vehicles in one place then I have ever seen outside of a rally in my life.

Alaska Trip Continued
On July 4th we took the ferry (actually a small WWII style landing craft) to our final destination on Tutka Bay, a small interior bay in the State Park. It pulled up to the landing beach for our site and dropped us off with all of our gear, which included 3 kayaks to go with my sister-in-law’s canoe and then pulled away leaving us there for 3 nights. The next closest cabin/yurt was a mile hike away, so we were completely on our own…pretty cool. We had a good supply of bear spray food, beer and water, the necessities in Alaskan wilderness. I won’t go into daily details, but let the pictures speak for themselves. I will say “epic” could be used appropriately in this case. The coolest part for me was the “sunset” every night at about 11:45 pm. Although the “sunrise” was at 2:30 a.m. it never got really darker then what most of us would consider twilight. I have also never seen so many sea otters, salmon and Bald Eagles in my life (we actually had a nest right above our Yurt).
The ferry came back and picked us up on July 7th. We drove back up to Anchorage and spent another couple of nights there before flying back to Maryland. Can’t wait to visit again in another 18-24 months. Next time, definitely going up to Denali and seeing some of the more interior parts of the state.
These were the companies we used to rent the Yurt and hire the Ferry. Both were awesome companies to work with if anyone is interested.

Just installed a CH4x4 switch for my twin compressor, and they have an option to customize switches. Go get your "Skunk Ape" switch, pretty sure they have a sasquatch graphic in their inventory:
