Daily driver with the look of a TRD - SR5 or Limited

2017 Ltd here. I’m exactly like you who doesn’t off road at all and love the look of Trd Pro but if I were to do it again ,I’d get an SR5 and convert it into the Trd Pro. You have no idea how much less hassle it would have and money you could save.

Here are my takes: with the Ltd ,you do get better interior features and a full time 4wd system which is really beneficial if you live in a snowy area. However,the conversion can be a pain and very costly.

Firstly,you will need to find a trd or SR5 front and rear bumper and paint it(its even harder if it’s a blizzard pearl Ltd),then install the Trd Pro garnish ,valance and an upper radiator mesh grille on the front bumper.

Secondly,the rocker trims on stock Ltd will have to be replaced with the trd one and the running board needs to go as well if it has one.

Lastly,you will need to get Trd Pro wheels,a tee skid plate and tires you want as long as they are 265/70/17.

Moreover,if you want it to look exactly like a pro ,you will also need a hood scoop like the one on trd off road and you need bilsteins 5100s or the Trd Pro suspension to give your Ltd some lift since the Xreas doesn’t provide any lifts which will require you to rip the Xreas off which is not a good thing as it gives you really smooth ride feel on pavements.

With an SR5,all you need is a Trd Pro garnish,valance,upper radiator mesh grille ,Trd Pro wheels, a hood scoop and a trd skid plate.

It's an overpriced option to be sure, but if you don't want to fuss around and do any work yourself just get a sr5 premium with the predator package. It will get you the step bars, pro wheels, blacked out badges, and pro grille.

hey, thanks for mentioning this. I saw this on a vehicle on autotrader. I agree it looked really nice but no idea it was a port installed option. Def something I will look into.

There are two XP packages, that is the gunner. Gunner gets you the 20" Wheels, Blacked out badges, billet grille, and running boards.

XP Predator is a full Pro knockoff.

Doing that package on a SR5 Premium along with a TRD skid plate, pretty much gets you to a cosmetic Pro clone except for a scoop. Terrible investment if you aren't keeping it long term, but we are a buy it new and drive it for 10 years type family. I think it was around a $3k option.

I just picked up a 2018 TRD Offroad with dealer blacked out emblems and TRD wheels all for $40k. Not much else this good for that price. With KDSS and black cloth, it super comfy. And I don't feel like a poser in this, I just prefer OE parts.

I have the SR5. I LOVE the way the grill on the TRD looks, and I HATE how the fog lights look on the Limited....

I would also look at the TRD Off Road trim. For a few bucks more you do get a few more offroad features that you may or may not use, but long term resale value would be better.

I purchased a TRD Off Road premium mainly due to the pro not having a sunroof and added the exterior pieces from the Pro and lifted it with bilstein 5100's and dobinson springs. It would be easier to add the black pro valances to this model as it already has the slots cutout for the valances and is a simple swap from silver to black.

Curious what you mean, I'm 6'5" and have the leather/softex and sunroof and I have a crazy amount of headroom, it's like a living room in my cabin. Way more headroom than my 4th gen which I used to hit my head on the roof when braking hard

Glad to hear it worked for you, I went to dealer sat in both, and the SR5 premium with same predator pkg just had much less head room with sunroof, I actually would love to have the sunroof and softex but without laying the seat waaaay back I didn’t have enough headroom, even adjusted the seat bottom as low as it go, and I may be closer to 6’7”, I just wish Toyota would offer softex without a sunroof, oh well like I said I see some Katzkin in my future
