Daily driving a 4Runner

Hello! Do you guys think you could daily drive a 2000 4Runner with under 200k? Only asking because I have a 2010 Honda Civic that I’m thinking of selling and just driving my 4Runner. I know the 4Runner is a lot worse in gas but I’m fine with that. Just wondering if you could daily drive a vehicle that old without many problems.

Ya of course, my dad daily drove his 3rd gen 4Runner for 13 years and almost 300k miles. It would have gone even more but he got into an accident so he got a fifth gen instead.

I currently daily drive my 2001 4Runner with 94500 miles on it no problem.

Just stay on top of maintenance and you should be good!
 
I daily drive my '98 and it has 352K miles and have for the past 310K miles/17 years. When gas prices go up the mileage does start to hurt, though.
 
I certainly hope so.
I've been daily driving older 4runners for the last 17 years.
Just had to do normal maintenance items.
 
Most of us here do. Though many of us also have other cars to drive too... DIY maintenance and fix everything before it becomes a major issue! Otherwise, you might have expensive fixes to pay a shop to do in a time crunch.

We save our 4runner for a camping/travelling rig. 4 trips from the Yukon to Mexico or the Mexican border so far.

We DD an old corolla to keep the miles and wear and tear off the runner.

It's only as reliable as you keep it. The 4runner is good.
 
240k something miles on my 3rd gen and I daily it. Just do proper maintenance and fix stuff before it breaks. I went from a nb2 miata daily to the 4runner, I kept both as I have the pinks. If I was making payments, I'd ditch the payment car first lol.
 
Do you really have to sell the Civic? The 4Runner can absolutely do it but I feel like these are better as a side vehicle now. That being said, I daily one or two.

Civics are good rides as well. Better mpg then the 3rd gens do. However, they are just too small for my size. I got rid of the cars when someone pulled out in front of me in my 1991 camry. The dashboard hit my legs. The moon roof compartment hit my upper forehead and too me legs regiments 4 to 5 months to completely heal again. Then I went back to Framed trucks and 4 runners. ;)

iirc the 3rd gen T4R is still in top 5 vehicles with least amount of deaths or something. Very safe and sturdy car - I knew someone who rolled his and walked away without a scratch. But that's also by the grace of god
 
Bought an 02 4Runner with 180K miles last Spring to replace my 15 Forester XT as my DD.
Been catching up on all needed maintenance/repairs on the 4TR with plans to sell the Forester by end of summer while it still has solid resale value.
Go for it, just do what others have said and stay on top of maintenance items so it remains reliable.

LOL did you hear that on T4R.org? Sounds like a serious stretch and I am a lifelong believer in the 3rd gen.
