Damage while installing remote starter?

I didn't notice this before because it is normally covered up by the steering wheel when it is in driving position, but did see it today when cleaning the steering wheel and steering column.

Could this be damage caused when they installed the remote starter? would they need to get into the steering column or at least use this screw?

It looks like someone was going to put the screwdriver on the screw and slipped?

I know it's not a huge deal since it is normally covered, but you know, it's a new car!

Looks like they tried to pry that panel apart with said screw driver. I would _not_ be happy about that.
 
Not a big deal!!!! Are you ****ting me, I'd drive the damn truck through the showroom if I were you (well not really but you get the drift how pissed I'd be). You would be very foolish if you didn't get that taken care of. Good luck.
 
Thanks guys. So is that an area they would need to get into for the remote starter? That's the only thing I can think of because I just noticed it and I can't think of anything else that would cause that.

I just want to be prepared when I call and email them the picture. Thanks again.

That means don't touch the steering wheel and the steering wheel column next time when you clean the interior. JKD.....:D.

Definitely go back to dealer that did the installation, this is not acceptable.

so they would be in that area when installing remote starter?
 
The problem here is with the person who caused the damage, if they kept their mouth shut (which I am sure they did because they did not want to lose their job or have to pay $$ to replace the part), the 'dealership' would have no clue of the damaged caused to your 4R. The problem here is that 1 person can represent an entire dealership, that is why it pays to have quality and HONEST employees. Personally if I ran the dealership and found this out the person would be fired for not reporting their mistake!
 
If the SR5 uses chipped keys then the remote start would need a ignition bypass which usually goes in the steering column.

Wow did they hack that!!!!! They need to replace the clam shell all together. Do NOT accept that as a fix. I just installed my remote starter last weekend and didnt even break a clip. That is simply unacceptable...

Damn, thats their fix?!?!?! Looks like they used black apoxy to fill in the crack and sanded it down rather then replace it. Even your directional stalk is scratched up and it wasnt like that in your first post. They never even took it apart again, they just did the repair as is......VERY UNACCEPTABLE

That is unacceptable! You can't just try and repair plastic like that. There is texture that needs to match, etc. They are trying to cut corners to save the cost of their F-up. Tell them they need to order new panels-not repair them. Then call Toyota customer service line and make a complaint about the experience. They are wasting your time by your having to bring it back twice now!!
 
Yeah, for places that charge over $2 for panel clips, as in they make the customer pay, they had better pay properly for their own mistakes.
 
Looks like they used a heat gun to fix it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Take it back. I would be surprised if those panels cost that much anyway.
 
did u sign a contract on the remote start install? there should be a policy on the store, but that repair job is a no no, also did u buy the remote start off ebay? usually the store do not care about the install if the alarm/remote start was not bought from them.
