Damn you Jiffy Lube

Guilty, I used Iffy Lube once. I was about to head out of town and didn't have time or place to do it myself, was temp staying in a small apartment. Took my oil and filter to them, told them I wanted a basic oil change and grease the drive line, I know my 4runner and its in great shape. About 10 minutes later the service adviser calls me and says "you have a serious problem you should look at", He takes me out to the pit to show me a "very large coolant leak" my heart sinks for a second, until I see green around bottom of my engine. I let him finish his sales pitch about needing new radiator hoses maybe a radiator even, and a coolant flush, then ask him if I can show him another "serious problem" he looks puzzled but I walk him back to the front of the 4runner and ask him what would cause my toyota pink coolant to change to green before it leaks out of my oil pan and frame rails that you were point at???? He said nothing, so I asked the "tech" to spray some degreaser he was using on the floor and show me the color. It was green... When I told them I used to work at toyota and know whats going on with my truck, they got really defensive and asked "why don't you change your own oil then?!" While I waited for them to finish I called the manager and left with a free oil change...

Very misleading story, I'm sure they left some lugs loose, but it didn't lose 4 wheels, looks like one, maybe two.

In my area, Jiffy Lube recently started offering brake service.

Sounds like they need to improve their brake training.

Not sure what specialized training they wanted you to attend. Lube Techs do not need Toyota Certifications

Yep. Dealers and Quik-lubes hire young, entry-level people for oil change service.

But...the dealership lube tech might have an opportunity to move up the ladder if he proves to be consistently accurate. The Quik-Lube guy is stuck. He'll be doing the same job as long as he remains at Quik-Lube.

Jiffy lube is one of the worst, however they are not alone in the industry.

When I was 18 I had a turbo Integra and my dad would not let me take it to college. The night before I left we went and bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I didn't have time to do anything due to packing so my dad took it to Jiffy lube and had them service the tranny and both different, coolant and oil. On the way to college it started vibrating bad. Turns out they put the wrong fluid in the rear diff and did not fill the tranny up all the way. Took it to dealer and got a brand new rear diff and tranny, paid for by Jiffy lube. They did not even argue it.

After finishing auto school I worked for Subaru. Proble once a month a car came in with rod knock or some issue. Would note on the work order that customer stated they had just had the oil changed at one of the local quick lube places. Sometimes it would only have one quart of oil sometimes the oil filter will be only on by a few threads so the oil shot out everywhere. I don't know who paid for it as all I did was the work, but you certainly get what you pay for.

I read the whole story, scrolled down...all the way. Still a misleading story. I'm not defending Jiffy Lube, just saying the story doesn't tell the facts.

Two years ago the Harlan Group, which owns about 1800 Jiffy Lubes across the country started offering brakes and tires. The program didn't stick at all locations they tried, which was about 100 stores. Not sure how many made it fly. Another entity, The Alamitos Group has had better success.

Bottom line the likely hood of finding a superb tech at Jiffy Lube is not high, but then again, I visit auto shops all day and the odds aren't all that great across the board. But loose lugs could happen anywhere, I worked for a new car dealer where a guy installed the pads backwards once.
