Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. My dashboard clock stopped working and i'm so annoyed by it. Does anyone know how I might go a round fixing it? Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the club! My new-to-me 1999 4runner has an inoperable clock as well. I'm replacing the factory stereo this weekend though, and the new one will have a clock.
New clocks are ungodly expensive (over $200), so most people either try to take theirs apart to see if they can fix it, or they just put a small digital clock somewhere on the dash...or use their cell phone.
Both of my previous vehicles had full-time clocks in plain view...so it really irks me that my T4R clock doesn't work.

i think most people here have the "cold clock" meaning it will only turn on when temps outside are very cold. i have the same effect on mine
however, why go to the junkyard and buy a replacement clock when the same thing will probally happen to it down the road? it has to be something with the wiring or some sort, b/c the clock itself works.
so if anyone has figured it out let us know!

I fix mine by thumping it really hard. Seems to work 99% of the time. :biggrin2:

Solved: 3rd generation Toyota 4Runner digital clock repair DIY (aka tooth surgery)
I fixed mine by rewiring the Toyota 4Runner digital clock circuit board.

It's not a fuse, you have a bad clock.

...unless the harness is plugged into the famous dummy hole on the back of the front panel. It fits perfectly but does nothing there. So worth checking to be sure the clock is actually plugged in.
The dummy hole is halfway down toward the steering wheel. The right hole is up top on the back of the clock.

mom's DIY clock fix thread is awesome. the clock, however, is not. F that thing. Your clock is probably fine, it's the stupid pegs in the back of it that plug into the stupid harness. I fought many battles with the damn thing until I finally got tired of ripping the center console out every day (though I can do it very quickly now). Finally declared the clock the winner and slinked off into the sunset, defeated. The clock now sits dark, the wiring harness cut off and wires taped up. Aside from the cupholder placement, I believe this to be the second stupidest design flaw for these trucks -

Bumping the heck out of this thread.
Pulled my clock out and tore it down. It appears that all of the solder joints are intact and the springs are in good shape and making contact. Has anyone actually come across a bad screen? Mine appears to be burnt out in the corner, but I would like to verify this is what the screen looks like when its done for.
All my searches gave me info to resolder the circuit board or screw with the springs.

The buttons on my clock stop working years ago. Was thinking of getting it fixed but it seams that little cheap digital clock is a big dead to replace and costly. I guess ill take someones advice here and buy $$ store instead and stick it on the dash. :eyebrows: or maybe just find my gps and put it back in the car, it has a clock

If the display has gone dead it's normally some SMD capacitors on the motherboard that have "dry" joints. Dissemble the clock and get you or your mate to resolder the main board. V easy fix.
