Dashboard D Light

So I got in my runner late the other evening, started it up and the D ( drive) icon on the dash quit lighting up. Does anyone have a remedy for this that preferably doesn't require taking the dash apart? Its really kind of a trivial problem, but its one thats been buggin me. All other dash lights work properly. As always any help is appreciated.

Your going to have to take the gauge cluster out to change it, the bulb type is a 74. Pretty easy to change.
 
the dimmer doesn't dim the PRND2L lights


just toss a bulb in there, not a big deal....while you're in there, change them all so you wont have to crack it open again in 2 weeks
 
thanks for the help, i figured it needed replaced. do i need to get the bulb via a dealer, or would an auto parts store generally carry this? also, does anyone have any kind of write up on this....thanks guys.
 
alright, heres what you gotta do. Its a number 74 bulb. Available at any local auto parts store i believe, however, i would suggest www.autoluminations.com. They have tons of bulbs for real good prices. Seeing as your going to have to take the gauge cluster out it wouldnt be a bad time to change the color of your gauge lights if you wish to do so. Its a relatively cheap mod and it looks super cool. Heres what you gotta do. First, take the 4 bolts out of the plastic piece under your steering wheel. They are 10mm. Carefully pull this piece back. It is not neccessary to take it all the way off just enough to access other areas. Next, pop off the plastic around the key ring. In doing so, be careful to not scratch your steering wheel column. Now, you should see two screws. One will be on the left side of your steering wheel and one is under the plastic key ring you just pulled off. These are the two hidden gauges screws. Remove these. Now remove the two visible screws at the top of your gauges. ONce all 4 screws are out, carfully pull out the plastic piece around the gauges. Now you all you have to do is remove the 4 visilble screws on the gauges, and it should come out very easily. Carefully unclip all the wiring harness, and dont worry none of them are interchangable so you dont have to worry about hooking them back up wrong. Now when the gauges are out there are 4 screws ( i believe but it should be obvioius) on the back white plastic piece of the gauges. Remove this piece. Now you should be able to see all the bulbs in the back. ALl the bulbs are size 74 except for the 3 main bulbs, which are in silver pods instead of green, these bulbs are size 24. If you decide you want to change the gauge colors all you have to change is the 3 size 24 bulbs and you will still need to replace your blown 74 bulb. spot on thanks bran52191....finished up in about 30 minutes...i changed the backlight to an orange glow to match my sirius reciever.
 
heres the finished look. pretty easy to do. you have to really watch not to scratch the ignition plastic as well as the top of the steering wheel when removing the plastic piece.

Damn!!! that looks really good! I've been thinking about changing all of my LED's to white!

Which LED's did you use?
 
LOL! It was just a thought! Nobody has done white on a 3rd Gen. yet. I'm kind of curious on how it would look. I probably won't do it though...
 
just some cheapies from autozone...3 something for a pack of two. just remember to get two packs cause you'll need 3 bulbs. also once inside the cluster the bulbs you replace have green knobs.
 
man i wish my autozone sold colored 24 bulbs. i might have to go back and check so i can save the trouble of ordering offline.
