Dashboard

What do you guys think is a good price for the top dashboard piece for a second gen?

Also I know there is a difference between the SR5 and base models for the plastic face plate that goes over the gauges and the rest of the dash, but is there a difference for the top dash piece?

Those are worth a billion dollars!

Only because they are just not available anymore, unless they have a hundred cracks and the foam is turning brown already!

I have been looking for a non-cracked dash in any color (I can shoot it myself with SEM vinyl dash paint) and have not found one in the past 10 years now. Every one that I have found, always has a crack or spiderweb somewhere on it, or they've started to deform and warp.

However, if you find one, or two, please, let me know! I haven't even bothered looking in the past 3 or 4 years since there's never anything out there. My name and number is with several junk yards to call if/when they get one that's near mint in, haven't gotten a call yet.

I don't remember what the hell it looked like (I saw it back in august but wasn't paying attention because I didn't care at the time) but I know a guy with a parts truck and he said its good condition and he'll give me it for $20. All i gotta do is rip apart the whole dash without destroying it and it's mine

So based off your statement, I'll assume I should jump on it lol

HELL YES! 20 bucks, if its not too badly cracked, you can clean it with isopropyl alcohol really good, the small cracks can be filled in with epoxy or plastic body filler (only really fine cracks, not big ol' gaping canyons!), then shot with a good quality vinyl paint to match the interior. It'll look brand new again!

And just to add to this, the last quote I had was $200 for a dash cap in blue that didn't have cracks in it. That was around '05 and I passed on it because I thought it was too much money. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!

Wow that's crazy. This guy said I could have the whole entire dash (that includes the electronics) for $100

Sadly, I checked a bunch of 1st gen 4runners and trucks, nothing there for dash parts. Wish they did though, that would be a decent selling item I think.

The dash on my 90 T4r has a few serious cracks so when I came across the thread a year ago by HanginInUtah 'my cracked dash' I Bookmarked the thread. He posted the before and after pic's of his 'do it himself' repair of the cracked dash on his 92 Toy., I was impressed. The thread includes the products he used and fairly clear explanation. Although it appears labor intensive, since it involves removing the dash, not sure there's another option since I have not been able to locate a suitable replacement? Now it's only a matter of 'when time permits'????

Gonna have to look into this process more, that tan dashboard in the link looks absolutely amazing!

I think mine might still be salvageable, if I do take this on, I'll be sure to post photos and maybe a writeup along the way.

LOL! I agree!!! That wasn't really a write-up, but more of a few after pics and what products he used!

I'll follow the other links on that page and see if I wanna tackle it. It would be nice to finally finish the dash off, the rest of the interior is pretty nice now!
