Hi Everyone,

I have finally decided to start a build thread for my rig.

A little bit of background about myself. I grew up in Michigan, moved to Chicago for schooling. I've also live in Washington DC, Florida and now call Southern California my home. I went to Automotive school (UTI) and was an automotive technician for Volkswagen for 3 years and for Porsche for 4 years. Now I am currently a Product Manager for a cell phone accessory company. I decided to switch career because I enjoyed working on cars more as a hobby then as a career.

When I moved to California I jumped on the band wagon here and bought a BMW 335i. I loved it, it was fast, looked great and handled amazing. But after owning it for only a year and half I ended up spending almost $5k in repairs. So after being sick of spending all that money I wanted something more reliable and able to climb the mountain for snowboard season and that is why I bought my 4Runner.

I purchased my 4Runner in March of 2015.

2006 Toyota 4Runner sport edition V6 W/ 100K miles 4WD for $14,800.

The roof rack I bought off craigslist from a guy who made it for is 3rd gen 4Runner. I only ended up paying $250 for it. I went a few places to get quotes to have new mounts welded on for my truck and they wanted $400 and said they needed a few weeks to get it done. I'm impatient and I can't wait that long so I decided to go to a metal shop and pick up some angled aluminum and make my own mounts. I highly underestimated how hard it would be to cut the pieces to the size I needed them. I had to buy and angle grander and I went through 4 blades and broke 5 brand new titanium drill bits make the holes. But I finished it in a week, and painted them with bed liner to match the roof rack and it turned out pretty good. In the future I'll probably end up making new mounts.

All in I think I spend about $500 for the rack, material, tools, wind diffuser, and light bar.

Do you have any driver side spacers to help the lean?

I have not but I do have a slight lean. I can't really see it but if I measure it, it's there. A friend of mine has an extra rear space from when he corrected his lean and he said he would give it to me for mine.

I have no idea, I haven't used another light bar besides the one I have. I don't do much night riding, I just wanted something so I decided to go cheap. I took the ends off and sealed them with extra silicone to prevent moisture from getting inside. The one I have is really bright and I cant wait to more night runs with it.

Nice looking 4Runner. Got some more info on the Pioneer head unit? I am thinking about upgrading my stock head unit. Is it directly plug and play and works properly (radio, maps, gps, bluetooth, etc?) Is there anything else needed?

Also, how does it look and feel in general? I try to avoid going to "non-factory" on my 4Runner, and I have gone back and forth about a new head unit. Is it really worth the upgrade? Does the big SCION logo annoy you at all? Sorry about all the questions!

The head unit number is: PT546-00140

It directly bolts up but you will need to purchase harness and antenna adapters and bluetooth harness for it to work. The radio is capable of having maps, GPS but you need to purchase the BeSPOKE navigation module which isn't cheap. The bluetooth, steering wheel controls and radio work great, I love it. I wanted a factory look that is why I went this route and I am very happy with it. Honestly I barely notice the scion logo.

To save you some time from reading everything here is the post with everything you will need with part numbers.

"These are the parts I used, all of which I already had from doing the T1819 swap.
This is for a Non JBL system. I have no idea what you will need if you have JBL

pt546-00120-ad -antenna adapter, you will also need another metra adapter if you want to use both the stock antennas

pt546-00120-ch -this is the main harness, 20 to 28 pin adapter

pt546-74120-mc -this is the bluetooth mic kit. I know that the bluetooth would not work on the T1819 unless you had the mic, I do not know if that is the case with the FRS radio.

pt546-00120-us -USB adapter. This, with some modification, will allow you to plug a usb device into the unit.

There are other parts you will need if you want to have the Nav and BeSPOKE functions. I have not yet acquired these so Im not sure what the part numbers are yet."

I am slowly getting my vehicle ready for the snow season. These weather tech floor mats will definitely come in handy especially when I like to go out and get muddy.

I think I'm going to copy your lift, tires and wheels. I have an V8, so I'm wondering if the lift will be about the same. Did you have much rubbing? If so, where and what did you have to do to get rid of it? Thanks

I am not sure how much more the V8 weights but I am sure it will be close to the same lift. If it isn't you can always move your Bilstein's up another notch. I did have some rubbing but it was only while turning in reverse, which was annoying. To get rid of it I moved my front fender liners forward and drilled new holes for the screws. I also had to trim a small piece off the corner of the bumper, it isn't noticeable but helped a lot.
