day wheeling near boone NC

So my plans for next weekend got canceled. So I'm planning on heading out to richland rd for a couple hours on sat. the 15th if anyone wants to join.

For anyone in the area that doesn't know of it, it is a "primitive unmaintained rd" just south of boone on 321. that takes you to aho gap on the parkway. Takes about 2hrs. to do taking your time. Its not extreme wheeling or anything, I would say moderately difficult in some areas for a stock T4R. There is a few technical places, a few creek crossings, one ledge, but mostly just easy riding. It is 100% legal as long as you stay on the rd. there are lots of off trails that private property witch you cannot go on. If you want to join let me know!

Charlotte to the Mtns

Sounds like a fun weekend - exactly what I've been looking to do. Got to get outta CLT and head to the woods as often as possible.
So I had a 98 SR5 2wd, sold it for an AWD 2000 Subaru, sold that after 5 and a half months and just purchased a 2003 4runner SportsEdition 4x4. Loving it so far.
Would you say a stock 4x4 could make it? Too much stress on it? If you go before lunch then I may be able to join. Have to get back in town in the evening for some family time

Well the first time I went out there, I was in a stock 98 with 31's, it had been my first time wheeling in a while and there are a few places that where very intimidating . BUT i made it just fine. What size tire are you running? I will probably be heading out there around 9:00am

I know what you mean about getting out, if you want i can post up some google maps links to some forest service roads. Old nc 105 is great for just cruising, its an old gravel road that follows a mountain ridge by the linville gorge for about about 10 miles with some great views

Well I was a lone Toyota (as it normally is up here) with 4 other wranglers. Went well though, Tried a few creek crossings that I didn't try last time. No pictures unfortunately. All in all good day in the woods.

If you're ever planning on coming up this way just PM me and we can probably get a few people to go. IMO its not worth the drive just for the trail. it only takes 2-2.5 hours stopping and taking your time.
