Daystar 2.5/1.5 XREAS Question.

I'm planning on doing this lift on my truck soon. The only thing holding me back is the fact that the shop i'm going to have install the lift said that i will lose the Xreas feature on my truck. They mentioned they've done a number of lifts on the 4runners and once they disconnect the Xreas they haven't found a way to re connect it...

Does this make any sense ? Thanks.

makes total sense from what i read, you cant reconnect it you have to leave it connected and use spring compressors not wall mounted spring compressors. i am about to have this lift done on my truck also. i called a ton of shops and none of them knew alot about XREAS so i wouldnt want to take my chances. i wouldnt go with a shop telling you that you have to scrap XREAS because they are wrong. there is a write up on another site full detail really great write up ill see if i can find the link in my favorites.
 
Total BS having to get rid of XREAS when doing a Daystar 2.5/1.5. I put this on myself and while it makes it a little more difficult to move the strut around because of the XREAS hydraulic lines, there is no need to disconnect the system. Don't let them touch it if they are unsure of what to do with XREAS!
 
to clarify. makes total sense they cant disconect then reconect but total BS on having to lose XREAS. imo i wouldnt let them touch it
 
just had mine installed at 4wheelparts for $159.00

if you are not going to install it yourself make sure you take it to someone who knows what the freak XREAS is and has experience with it.

Depending which daystar kit (I have seen 2 diff ones not sure if this is still the case) you got you don't even need to remove the springs the kit I got came with strut stud extensions then the daystar spacer slid over those so basically a large topout spacer so my mechanic just pulled the strut out held it in place with bungee cords put the studs extensions and spacer and then put it back in place all without touching the xreas or taking the strut apart and the rear was super easy took 10 min.

I haven't snapped any pics yet, but you can find about 200 or so examples in the lifted section in this forum. In my opinion, the 4th gens come too low to the ground. the additional 2.5 inches is what was missing from the factory. I can gurantee you will not be dissapointed.

Oh yeah, i was going through that thread last night checking them out. I really wish i hadn't bought new tires a little over a month ago. It would have been a perfect time to lift and up-size.....:redbrick:....lol The tires i just bought are 265/60r 18.....i am afraid they would look too small with the lift.

Hopefully things will slow down and i can get around to doing it myself. I am not going to pay the $600 our local offroad shop wanted for the kit and install.

Any risk to our ball joints or CV's from this? I realllly want to install this, but I've heard there can be risks, especially with the topouts. Any thoughts? Is what I'm hearing un-founded?

I'm rockin' the stockers right now and they don't look too small with the lift. however this Friday i'm going up to 255/75/17 (32 inches).

if you have a 4wheelparts near you I recommend ordering from their website and picking it up from their store. By doing this you'll get a 25% off installation voucher emailed to you...at that time you can decide if the installation price is cheap enough to let them install it or go ahead and do it yourself. For me $159 which included an alignment was too good to pass up.

Angles do increase, however, I believe there is a diff drop kit you can order to relieve some of the increased angle.

Not sure how much diff drop kit decreases clearance or if does decrease clearance at all.
 
Not to threadjack, but just sharing my latest thought on my 'future' lift. Thought much better than starting a new thread.

I'm thinking Bilstein's all the way around, with front set at .85'' and then adding a 1'' (.5'' to net 1'') topout spacer to get almost 2'' of lift in front while not making the ride as harsh as the Billies set at 1.75. (I think that's how it works).

Then for the back, I plan to likely just install the 1.5'' daystar spacer, so I'll still have a good bit of rake. I also have the Air Lift 1000 already installed, I just hope this would still work with the rear spacer.

No diff drop planned, and hoping that won't cause issues.

Thoughts/opinions?

Daystar lift and level kits DO NOT require the X-REAS system to be removed or disabled. They works just fine with the X-REAS system. Having said that, make sure during your installation you do not disconnect any of the X-REAS lines. If you disconnect any of the lines, you will never get it to work again. There is also no reason to disconnect it to install a Daystar kit. They can be installed just fine without disturbing the X-REAS.

Regarding the XREAS line that connects to the passenger front strut, I mistakenly cracked open the bolt, had fluid come out then closed the bolt after seeing this. What is the impact of this action?

It would depend on how much fluid came out and/or if any air got into the system. You will need to contact Toyota or a qualified Toyota mechanic for more information on this.
