Daystar coming out- OME, Toytec Superflex and Bilstein 5100's going in

Well, it's time. The Daystar 2.5/1.5 served its purpose, but it's days are over. I really was pleased with the results I got for the money I spent, and just like everyone said I would eventually want to upgrade. After spending tons of time reading everyone's build threads and talking to a few people I decided to go with the OME 884's in the front, the Toytec Superflex coils in the rear and the Bilstein 5100's all around. It will still be a DD for my wife so I wanted to keep the ride from being to stiff until we have kids and I get her a vehicle for hauling rugrats around, though she has already said that she would like a 4Runner for that. This one for dogs and trails and a newer one for a baby. I love that woman. Lol. Anyways, I've got it all sitting here and am too excited about installing it on Saturday, so I thought I would relieve some anxiety by posting here. It doesn't seem to be helping all that much though. Ha. I kind of wish the front coils were red though, as I've always thought some red coils would look good under my blue truck. Anybody think rattle canning them would be worth a damn?

I' ve had nearly the exact same setup (running SAW coils in the rear instead of Superflex) since July '11. Nice choice. Are you going to install the 884 on the 5100s at the "0" setting? I ask because I have mine set at the second notch up and I got way more lift than I planned on...although it has since settled.

Again, I did this exact same thing. Ha. Check my older threads and albums for pictures. The paint is still holding up fairly well. I didn't do any extreme prepping besides a quick sanding and cleaning. I really wish I had painted them gray now...ehh whatever.

That was my plan for now. If I think I need to up it any I can always get back in there pretty easy and change it. Like I said, this is what my wife is driving to work every day right now, so I want it to be comfortable for her to use. Wish I didn't work so far away so I could drive it instead of the Accord. Oh well, gotta pay for mods. lol

Not as much as it used to. lol. I got things on the lower end right now so it don't hurt too bad, although I can still pound em pretty good. I need to build a different setup in the back sometime, so when I do that I'll have to dial it back in so I can test it. lol.

my brother had the 13w7 and it was pretty nice... he always kept it turned down to like 15-20% and was still plenty loud enough haha

How much did you get done today? You goin to be trail ready by next weekend? We need pics!!

Got it all installed today. Actually I was thinking about going out tomorrow and seeing how they do on the trails. Loving it on the street so far though. My wife even said that she like the ride better. Working on getting my pics uploaded so I can post, but probably won't get that done until tomorrow morning cause I'm ready for bed.

I am running the same setup just with edelbrock shocks I'm waiting for the tires to show up so I can get everything mounted and aligned.

Well let us know how it does, I would love to go out with you but we spent all day yesterday out at the Buffalo Gap Grasslands playing. Next weekend for sure though hopefully Bob and Nic can go too. I busted a valvestem last night also so I have to fix that tomorrow

Well, here's some pictures from the install :cheers:. I'm kind of mad at myself because I forgot to take measurements. Just couldn't wait to get jacks under it and get that impact fired up. lol. I did have X-REAS, so I had to remove that. Honestly, I thought that it was a pretty good system, and was a bit worried that I may have regrets about taking it out. After having driven it for a couple of days now I can honestly say that there are absolutely no regrets.

Here's before we got started-

If you're not gonna keep the X-REAS lines, the easiest way to take it out was to cut it out. The fluid is under pressure, but wrap a rag around it and cut it-

We got it all buttoned up after about five hours, but that was while trying to keep an eye on his kids, walking up to the house for bathroom breaks, and an extended lunch. I would say that total work time was between three and three and a half hours. Everything went pretty smooth, except when I put the new studs in the top plate I put them in upside down the first time . I didn't go into all the details about the work, but if anyone has any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them. Measured from the ground it's sitting at 38" except the driver front is at 37.75". Not sure why, but I'll give it a little time to settle and measure again later.

Here it is later that day, and then next to my buddy's girlfriends new 08-

Well, I took it out on some trails today and I am extremely happy with the setup I chose. I'm really glad that I didn't go with stiffer springs. I wish I had taken more pictures, but I got a couple. The first two are a trail that I will run when I get armored and locked up. It ran across the one that we were on, which wasn't too hard, but you'd definitely want to be lifted to have clearance-

This picture is the beginning of a rock garden. We drove down to it, and turned around and headed back up. I stuck my phone out the window and took some video with my phone. Linked after the picture. Not the greatest, but it gives you an idea of the area we were in. Nobody steal bucknutbob's idea for a movie. lol.

So this is what it looks like on the 4th Gen side (LOL)! First time over here--I usually stick to the "classic" section. I can confirm--Perry's (Bigrupp) suspension works very well, both on the trails and on the pavement. Rides very smooth, and soaks up the hits on the rocks nicely. And Tye, I'm definitely trying to get ready by this coming weekend--it's time to put some trails under the tires of my other truck!

Im curious when you installed the fronts did you have problems fitting em in? Did you loosen Lower Control Arm bolts or use spring compressor or....?

Bigrupp, I'm going to do the exact same thing as you, the only question is when. My daystar lift has and is still serving me well but when the time comes to replace xreas or the shocks get too worn (I'm at about 65k now) I'm going with exactly the same setup as you (884s with the top plate spacer, superflex coils in the rear, and 5100s all around). I've been watching for sales to slowly accumulate everything. Thanks for sharing your feedback about this setup. You're making me want to swap mine sooner rather than later now.

No, they go in really easy. You gotta remove the sway bar, so it's not connected to the spindle. Remove the two bolts on the lower ball joint and then knock the upper ball joint out of the top of the spindle. Then you can push down on the lower control arm and work the strut a little to get it out. It definitely helps to have another set of hands to help push stuff out of the way so you can work it out, but it could easily be done alone. Once the strut was in place I put the nuts on the top studs just to hold it in place and then pushed the LCA down to get the bottom of the shock in place. Really the hardest part of it all is getting the two bolts on the bottom of the lower ball joint started again. Here again it helps to have another set of hands. Only used a spring compressor to put the strut together. It wouldn't help any with trying to get the strut in- it would just get in the way.

DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!! I'm currently at 85k miles, and I don't think that the X-REAS was really worn out and it wasn't leaking, but the ride is soooo much better. I knew I did the right thing when after a couple miles my wife said that she even liked it better. lol. Just do it now, you won't regret it. Are you putting it in or having someone else do it?
