Daystar or Revtek 4th generation

I used to work for NE ... so I can tell you for a fact, the re-locs do NOT lift your truck more, they just relocate the rear shock mount to accomodate for the lift and allow the shock to extend without blowing out!

Different views and they don't need my help no more.

Anyway, I ain't associated to nobody now. :D

harhar!

Question:
I have a 99 runner sr5 v6 with a revtek 2.5 inch lift. First, the front seems to have a lift that's higher than 2.5 inches and the back seems to sag a little. Has anyone had this issue? I've been told that it is a characteristic of runners.

Second, Since I've had the lift, the front inner cv boots have ripped and a second time after only 2000 miles since the last repair with out any off road activity. I'm hoping it is not caused by the lift but I see no other option. I don't want to remove my lift but I don't want to pay $500 every time this happens. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a remedy besides taking the lift out? Any help would be great!

Also, I read about bfg alts 265/70/17 fitting a 4th generation runner. These tires do fit. My brother has them on his. The only issue is the tires rub a little at full steering wheel lock.

Yeah the 3rd gen sometimes look like the rear can be a bit lower. How much did you lift the fron and the rear?

Also you can either look at reducing your front lift, or drop the front diff an inch or so to reduce the CV angle. Speak to Roger Brown at 4crawler.com he is a wealth of knowledge on 4Runner mods, especially the "older" ones :). He also offers various mods for them, especially diff drops and body lifts. He might even do it for 4th Gens now. ( I know he does body lifts for them)

Actually I just looked at my records. I have a 3 inch lift on the front and the back with bilsteins. Thanks for your help!

Correction: In my previous message I said the bfg AT fit...I should have finished reading...I don't know about the spare area. Sorry.

Fakie,
I put 265/70-17 BFG ATs on my rig about 2 wks before I did my NE 4"/3" lift. They do fit at the stock height, but do rub a little at full lock.
I chose this combination for the following reasons:
I didn't want to do the maximum lift, as this is my DD.
I feel that since the BFG ATs have a "blockyer" (more square) profile they fill the wheel well nicely.
I didn't want hugmungous tires that might rob power.
I also didn't want to throw off my speedo too much. Currently (with BFGs) when the speedo reads 70 mph, the GPS says 72.5 mph.
The larger the tire, the more expensive it is! and these BFGs ain't cheap.

For pics.

whitney-

thanks for emailing us those pics last night, they are already up on the site with a bunch of other new rigs and pics, etc...you the man!

:)

I hope this is not out of place but the mods should ban the NE members, with all that BS on yotatech why do we want it here:bash:

Im willing to hear his side but I also know from experience when a company/person burns 1 group they just move to a different group and repeat.

Many of the 4th Gen guys here don't go to yotatech, so it would be easy for NE to act like nothing happened:)

By the way, I believe that 4route (on this forum) and rocky (on YotaTech) are the same person. If you read the thread in question, it appears that 4route/rocky got burnt pretty bad as well. 4route/rocky says she no longer has anything to do with NE. So maybe don't go around banning all former NE members. And I too would like to hear a reply from NE.

rocky/4route is not NE anymore, she said so herself and I forgot she is still known as 4route here.

I read the entire yotatech thread so Im not making blind judgements, just don't want to see the same thing happen here that happened on yotatech

Burn him at the stake!!

haha...just kiddin

I am eager to see a response, I have no dealings with the company but from what I have read I looking forward to some explanations. I was definitely thinking about purchasing some of their products but I dont know about that anymore.

I hate to bring this thread back from O/T, but between Daystar and Revtek, what do you all suggest? I am having a hard time deciding. Mainly, I don't really understand why Revtek has to suppy new shocks. Can't I just install spacers? I like the feel of the factory shocks.

Am I as confused as I sound?

Thanks,

Cleric, I have always preferred the Revtek kit to the Daystar one. They both use the same spacer technology, but I have seen some pics (the one I have in mind especially is one that bulldog posted) of warped Daystar spacers, and it is my opinion that they compress more drastically than Revtek's .... then again, it is possible they could have changed the materials, as I know awhile back they switched to a denser polyurethane.

Nonetheless, I just like Revtek because I have the most experience with it, and even after taking the spacers out, there were no signs of wear (except for some dried up mud on there!).

Talk to Gary at wheelersoffroad.com and see if he can sell the kit without the longer rear shocks. He has seemed pretty willing to sell the parts separately like that, so it's definitely worth asking about!

Since you have an SR5 you dont have the XREAS, I would recommend the Revtek kit. It will give you more lift than the Daystar and also give you longer rear shocks for more flex in the back. It will stiffen you ride more than the Daystar kit (on the Daystar you wont notice). I have wheeled with Michael, he has the revtek kit with rear shocks, I had the Daystar with XREAS and his supensions did a far better job of the terrian than mine.

SO if it is wheeling you are into, the Revtek will be more epxensive but it will do better. The Daystar will help, better than stock.

If you had XREAS and dont do too much offroading you might want to consider daystar, lower center of gravity and cheaper. It affects you on road behaviour less.

Cleric -

To further confuse you, :D , I have the "new and improved" Daystar spacers 4route mentions above in the front of my T4R and have not seen any signs of compression. If, like myself, you have no intention of using the new shocks why not save yourself some $ and go with Daystar, after all spacer lifts are not rocket science. OTOH - The Revtek kit gives a slightly higher lift than Daystar.

Either way you cannot go wrong.

Thanks, guys, good info. There is so much I am getting ready to do that I swear my head is spinning. Lift/Wheels/Tires will probably make me happy, no matter what I choose.

Edit: That use of the word, "guys," is, of course, all-gender inclusive!
