Daystar/Spidertrax/Limited Wheels Question

OK so I am contemplating upgrading from current 265/70/17 Nitto Terragrapplers on SE wheels to 265/60/18 Bridgestone Limited wheels and tires. My question is, if I decided to upsize the tires on the limited wheels to 265/65/18 would I be ok without a daystar lift/spidertrax spacer combo? Keep in mind I do pretty much ZERO offroading and it would simply be for my wife's daily driver. So I am potentially looking into that setup but would like to know prior to doing any purchasing. Would a 265/65/18 fit in my spare well under the truck? I've asked HOJeepster who has pretty much what I am describing above and noticed a few other in the lift pics thread with similiar setup but the one consistent thing is that they all at least have spacer lifts.

Also for those that have either stuck with 265/60/18 or upsized to 265/65/18 what tires other than the BFG KO's are worth looking into? I see that the 265/65/18 is pretty limited in terms of vendors but the Hankook Dynapro looks pretty sweet for the price. They make it in 265/60/18 size as well. I see that Nitto makes a DuraGrappler in the 265/60/18 size as well.

Can't help too much on the fitment, but I will say I'm VERY happy with my Hankook DynaPro ATM's. Haven't been off road much, but I'm sure they'll do fine. I am in the same boat. I am about to need new tires and I have a 2006 Limited. I have considered a 2/1 lift with a 1" spacer just dont know what size to go with... probably the 265/65/18... Michelin LTX A/T2 is one to check out as well for daily driving.

You are good to go. I had no issues when I added my spacers with the exception of my tires rubbing my fender liners.

i am running a 265/65-18 hankook ventus. they came with the truck when i got it 3 months ago. i am very happy with the tires so far. to me the look more aggressive than the standard HT. no issues rubbing before lift. i had issues with rubbing with the lift with the spacers on and none since i took the spacers off. check my sig for details on my lift. here is what it looks like.

ark swamp rider is running a 275/55-17 on his 4R along with a space. he said that he had no problems with the spare and that tire tapes out at 32.1" the 265/65-18 tapes out at 31.4' so that should not be an issue.

alignment is necessary after the lift but not the spacers. i mean you dont have to get both done at the exact same time but you will need it done eventually. mine 4r was off by a full degree. after lift it was + 1/2 degree. corrected to -1/2 degree.

So you had no rubbing pre-lift and spacers with the 265/65/18 but then you added the spacers and lift and then had rubbing? Doesn't make sense to me? Am I missing something? Anyone else running 265/65/18 with no lift & spacers?

maybe, the wheel spacers can cause rubbing on inner fender & bottom tip of bumper. heres mine after i moved the inner fender forward & trimmed the bumper, & my front is lifted 2 in.

sorry for the confusion. i wasn't running any wheel spacers before the lift just the 265/65-18s. i added the wheel spacers after the lift and that is when there was issues with the front rubbing. it is an easy fix to trim the plastic liner but i just took them out since i was short on time and it was easier for me to just take the off for now.

Adding spacers changes the arc of the wheel. The lift did not caues rubbing the spacers did. Its hard to explain with a detailed CAD diagram to show how the arc was modified.

The anwser though is you will be ok stock with 265-65-18's with "most" tires. As long as you don't want to add wheel spacers. Some tires with very agressive treads might have some small rubbing issues this would be fixed moving the fender liners a little forward.

So doing a 2.5 Daystar lift won't cause rubbing but wheel spacers will? Maybe I will just keep the 265/65/18's as is then.

Correct, and yes moving the front fenders takes about 20mins with a power drill. Very easy and not noticable at all.

Wheel spacers are intended to be used when you wish to run a wider than stock tire on the OEM wheels to lessen potential A-Arm rubbing by the tire. But doing this "pushes" the tire out by the thickness of the spacer. When the tire turns, the outside of the tire could contact the mud-flap or corner front wheel well. (Depends on the size & tire, each is different)

I say stick with 265/65. Best highway ride. (I've had 265/65R17, 265/70R17, 265/60R18, & 285/60R18).

Don't half arse it. Spend the $3K or so to get a proper lift with new BFG AT KOs. there is no substitute for these tires. else just stay stock as it looks fine. it's not really an upgrade. it's a questionable lateral move.

Your's was the other I noticed in the "show us your lift" thread. Looks great. I certainly don't have $3k to spend. I like my 4runner, don't offroad and cannot justify that amount of my with the boss. I just love the look.

So I could do 265/65/18 with just wheels spacers and be fine (no rubbing) with no lift or should I stick with 265/60/18? Heck, even the BFG's are going to be pushing it as far as price but I would be much more inclided to spend the extra $300 on tires (difference betweem 4 BFG's and Dynapros). That is what I asked about the Hankook Dynapros as well.
