Daytime Running Lights

I have a 2004 4Runner and was wondering if anyone knew how to wire the stock daytime running lights so that they will also turn on at night. I think that they would look pretty sick on at night with the fog lamps. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks!

Pin 12 of the flasher relay. It's light green with a red stripe. This signal comes from the Body ECU and tells the DRLs when to come on. You'd need to test this line with a volt meter and see what the required signal levels are.

Most likely the line goes high (+12v) when the DRLS should be on and goes low (0v or floats) when they should be off...but it could be the other way around (possible) or even something completely different (unlikely). Assuming +12V/0V levels, you'd need to cut(or unhook) this wire and tie the flasher side to either +12v or GND. The ECU side should remain disconnected (taped off for safety). Pin 1 (yellow with red stripe) is a switched ignition line +12v on a 15A circuit. Pin 9 (white with black stripe) is ground.

Please see some of my other posts for my standard disclaimer. I haven't tested this modification and have no idea if it will work. In fact, you probably shouldn't do it. It's certain to void your warranty, at least in part. You do it at your own risk. If your car or house burns, explodes, or if you cut your pinky doing it, I'm not responsible. If your wife leaves you or your dog dies, I'm also not responsible. Any other consequences, good or bad, are also your responsibility, not mine. If you don't accept these terms, you agree to forget everything above this paragraph.
:D

Good luck.

How do you know all of this? I'll bet you didn't even look it up. You make me sick.

Haha, no I had to look up the pin numbers and wire colors from the factory wiring diagram. I remembered the part about the DRL signal since I made another post about inserting a switch on this same line to allow people to turn them on/off at will. As far as I know, nobody has ever tried it yet.

As for me, I don't even have DRLs though j0's DRL flasher is on the way to my house as we speak. Either way, I'm not planning to do this mod. I don't even know if it would be legal in California (or anywhere else).

this is what i got .... at night w/o turn signal ....
