Daytime running lights?

I just bought a 2000 Sport Edition this past weekend, and the wife has been hoggin it ever since. Well i bought it for her so I guess it's okay. Yesterday I got to drive it all day, because I had to install all the stereo stuff from her old car, and I noticed the headlights were on, do the 4runners have daytime running lights? Is it the regular low beams that are on? I want to upgrade to Sylvania Silverstars, will they burn out quicker with the daytime running lights on all the time? Is there a way to turn off the daytime running lights?

My '99 didn't have DRL, but my 2000 LTD does. DRL's are a good thing and I don't think it's going prematurely wear the bulbs out running them, it's like running the headlights but with less power. I am sure there is a way Toyota can disable them in the computer.
