I'd like to do LED's in my DRL/high beams. I've been looking at the new DDM saber pro led's. it looks like these replaced the 36w saber leds. DDM told me they were getting overheating issues with the 36w version in the 4runners. is anyone running these new saber pros? likes/dislikes?

what sort of overheating issues? have been running the 36w for sometime now and havent encountered anything
Honestly, they did not go into specifics. They just advised me against purchasing for my 2016 trail.

Is the problem only on the 36, and not the 40watt?
guess ill just have to wait until mine burn out then. have had them almost a year now without ill effect

dont waste your money on DDM Tuning products. its all extremely cheap quality, cheap quality control. Their products are reeally cheap inexpensive chinese made garbage. buy something higher quality and you wont be wondering why it failed in 6-12 months.
i dont know about that, ive been very happy with my high beams so far. even if they do go out after a year, its worth the $100 bucks every once in a while to buy new high beams that are about as powerful as a light bar.

i was debating ddm or not, bought these to try.
they work. DRL is dim, with some flicker. High beam is bright! half the price of ddm. and easy amazon returns

Definitely read the above thread from [MENTION=91899]Jhalko[/MENTION] (especially posts from the last 3-4 months or so) and the thread in my sig if you're interested in going LED in the DRL / HB spot. Hint: it's sub optimal to say the least.
There's a very good post from [MENTION=113429]RysiuM[/MENTION] somewhere in there that explains the exact mechanics of why there isn't a good solution for LEDs in the 5th Gen DRL / HB socket.

My DDM Saber Pro arrived yesterday (didn't see the comments about possible overheating), holding off until tomorrow afternoon to install them. Have a tech support ticket open with DDM asking about overheating issue, I'll post any response I get. Anyone know if it's a bulb or pack heat issue? I've also got an idea for mounting the packs that should get it more airflow, even if the install is significantly more difficult.
As for the DRL, thankfully mine is part of the switch on the stalk and not a full time on, so I plan on just turning them off until I get a chance to decide if I want to rewire them to the switchback parking lights/front turn signals or something different. I have a feeling DDM won't last the life of the truck, but they do the job long enough for me to decide whether or not I like it to spend the money on some quality ones later.

I don't know I have had their HID kits for years. I had a ballast or buld go out here and there but I just drive down to the shop and they swap them out for free. I'm going on a year and a half of ddm hids with no issues. I have had morimoto ballasts go bad in my Subaru back in the day and I didn't receive a replacement after about a year because it was out of warranty.....

So, I just submitted a ticket to DDM to inquire about any issues with the 36W Sabre's I have.....
Waiting on a response which will more than likely come next week.

I have been pondering the reported issue of the 36W LED's overheating in the 4R. I suspect it may be in vehicles that have not defeated the DRL circuit. This would keep a pulsed voltage applied to the LED's when the DRL is activated. The apparent lowered voltage may not be enough to allow the fan to cool the lamp assembly sufficiently and allow it to overheat over an extended period of time. Of course this is pure speculation on my part but it does seem plausible. Has any one with defeated DRL experienced any overheating issues? If this is the case it is highly likely that the 40W version will suffer the same malady as will many similarly fan cooled units.

I contacted DDM today after submitting a ticket inquiring.
I was told they run hotter, but I will not have any issues with heat to the reflector or lenses.
Mine are still under the 2 year warranty because I paid the "non-clearance" price, get the "non-clearance warranty" and was told if the fail, they will be replaced with the 40W.
So I am keeping them as they are performing as expected (which is bright and flawless), until they fail...
