After much shopping of alternative vehicles, I replaced my dead 2004 4runner with a 2006 4runner. I drove the Acura RDX, Mazda CX7 and Honda Pilot and I looked at the Volvo XC90, VW whatever you call it, Nissan Pathfinder and various Subarus. I found that all of these cars serve various purposes well, but the 4runner best serves mine. I gave the Acura the most attentive look (mostly because of its techy features), but I decided that the engine was annoyingly noisy and turbo laggy and that it would be impossible to do any better than about $1,000 below sticker. I also felt that the Acura sales people were somewhat arrogant.
My new 06 is pretty much the same as my white 04 (I grew to like white, but it was for sure not my first choice), except for the color, which is now titanium metallic.
I checked all of the dealers in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties and only found 1 with 4 wheel drive, Nav and a V8. My first color choice was gray, but seeing that there was only 1 car to choose from, I really lucked out by finding one in titanium. Now that I own it, I like titanium best (funny how that works).
Considering that I had the choice of only 1 car in Southern California and that this qualified me as a captive audience, the $37,500 I paid was not too bad of a deal, was it?
I'll try to post some photos soon. I also plan to be more active in this forum during my second 4runner ownership, as I have a newfound appreciation for how great of a rig the 4runner is.
