Dealer - Certified Car has more miles when I showed up - happening now

I am looking at a certified 2014 4runner that appears on the official Toyota.com website listing of CPO cars as having 20,000 miles. I got an online quote from the dealer and we agreed on a price. When I arrived the truck actually has 30,000 miles. The internet salesman is flabberghasted - has a bunch of hem and haw - but won't budge on the price. I just asked for the Sales Manager. Other comparable trucks I looked at with 40,000 miles were advertised $2,000 cheaper with no negotiations. What should I ask for? I'm thinking $1,000 off the price is pretty reasonable and digging in my heels.

big troubble

Apparently they reported the mileage to Toyota and Carfax as the lower number when they took the car back as a lease return - and then priced it with the real mileage (I think that is BS). They had a big pow-wow and came back saying no use talking about this car tonight, we need to get the mileage fixed with Carfax and Toyota. It sounds like it is a big black eye for them with Toyota. I walked out and took my 2003 home. The new car salesman were all in a row outside the sales managers office looking shocked.

The finance guy was still trying to sell me a extended warranty for "when the car is available" ---I said to him "you need to leave" and he left his own office.

Same dealer as before?

but this time bait and switch? if so id make a call into toyota corp and file a complaint..

If you have copies of the figures, file a fraud complaint and be sure to shop elsewhere. Contacting you local news channel is another option - they love this kind of stuff.

bastardos

They indicated that they could not sell the car until they cleared it up with CarFax and Toyota. The F&I guy was shocked that they had certified the car CPO with the wrong mileage - 19k when it had 30k. When I pointed out that it really had 30k, the salesman had to come back in and tell me no car for you. On the way out he "promised" that the car was mine as soon as they cleared it up with Toyota. Let me walk out.

Called me today and said "his co-worker and the used car manager sold the car to someone else".

I think they really did flub the mileage with Toyota and just had another buyer walk in yesterday who agreed to a higher price than I had.

I don't see fraud or bait and switch. Just dumb and no honor.
