Dealer issue - Beeps and Techstream Scantool question

I love my 4runner, but the loud beeps when locking/unlocking with the key fob have been driving me nuts since I got it. The manual says to contact the dealer about them and I have seen multiple posts stating that the dealer has the ability to turn the volume of these beeps down, or even off completely.

After reading this, I contacted the dealer and was quoted $50 to get it hooked up to their Techstream Scantool to make these changes. It's a one time charge, so I figured it was worth it since I could go back anytime to make any other adjustments I want.

I dropped the 4runner off this morning and let them know that I wanted the beeps turned off and the DRL's set to manual control. They said the beeps would be no problem, but that the DRL's might not be able to be turned off due to DOT something or other. This didn't bother me since the biggest issue was the beeping.

Well, I just got a call from the service manager saying that the DRL's can now be controlled manually, but that they couldn't find a way to turn off the beeps or adjust the volume. I told him that I've heard of many other 4runner owners having this done and pointed out that it even mentions contacting the dealer for this in the manual, but he still didn't seem to think it was possible. He said that their tech went through all of the audible options and that this just wasn't there. He also said that not all 4runners have this ability, even within the same model year.

Does this sound right? Is it possible that the tech just didn't know where to look? Mine's a 2004 Limited V8 if that makes a difference.

You would think so. The manual says to contact the dealer and my dealer says that they tried, but couldn't do it.

If I'm more than 20 feet away from my car I can't hear my beep. Is yours louder than that? If so I'd almost think it's something that can be controlled since mine isn't what I would consider loud. I'd almost like mine louder so I can find it in a crowded parking lot.

Edit: If they can't find the control they shouldn't charge you for the DRL change.

Mine must be louder, or the volume was turned down on yours at some point. I can easily hear mine from 75 - 100 ft. away.. and I'm sure the neighbors can too.

It's frustrating because I know it's been done on '04's. This post is an example: Disabling unlock beeps.

Should be under Customize Settings, DRL can be turned off with no problem and even set up manually. There should be a setting for the beep to be turned off completely if you want and IIRC volume.

Thanks for the feedback guys. When you say Customize Settings is this something I should mention to the dealer? Or is this something I can access somehow.

If all else fails I found some info on how to remove the piezo, but I'd rather leave this for a last resort.

Beeps/Alarms Carista vs. ???

After plugging a carista into the OBDII port, I’ve mellowed out the ‘22 4runner a little bit.

Still need to disable:
1) beeping seatbelt reminder at engine start (not the carista-disabled constant fasten seatbelt beeping, but the initial series of beeps)
2) Beeping while walking away with the key fob clipped to my belt
3) any of the other alarms/beeping.

I read something about tech stream. Any recommended interface devices? Does this software work with apple?

If there is a wire to be cut under the dash, I don’t mind losing other warning indicator sounds if it deletes the seatbelt beep.

Lastly… It’s a push button. Any options for being able to continue listening to music after shutting down the motor?
A) power the radio to secondary battery?
B) New ignition install with a key start?
C) Any ideas or instructions?

It’s a 2022 TRD off road if that helps.
