Dealer lost my 2014 SR5 Prem, now offering 2015 for $200 more

Dealer just confirmed $34,500 will be the price of the vehicle. Now the wait begins... They said it should arrive in a few weeks, it just arrived at the port. Not sure which port that would be.

Sounds like it all worked out for the better in the end. Lucky you

That's awesome. I think there's a guy selling his 2011 for more than that in the classifieds.

I don't think you're getting an SR5 premium at that price. Looks more like just an SR5. You may wish to double check.

I suppose prices vary nationwide, but I agree with NMJack.

My wife's 2014 SR5 2WD was south of that a bit, including tax and all of the dealer foo-fraw paperwork BS.

In my opinion, the OPs situation in some ways mirrors what I went thru when I was looking at a Tundra earlier this year.

Dealer Trade that was never gonna happen.

In the end that was fine as we ended up with the T4R at another dealership.

With all due disrespect, the dealer the OP hooked up with is a slim bag, but what else is new.

They sent me the spec sheet for the car and the VIN number. 2015 SR5 Premium 4X4 with 3rd row.

Then be very careful. I've encountered dealers that have really sleezy ways of trying to tack on a couple extra grand at the last minute. Best of luck, but be prepared to demand your $300 back and run out the door.....

if you have the vin# for the 2014. look up the info in carfax to see who the selling dealer was.. if it was them, then i'd say get your quote in writing then take your money elsewhere. if it shows that another dealer DID sell that 2014 then ok, understandable.. and get the 2015 from them

I'm amazed at the level bitterness among the replies here. Life isn't perfect, and accidents do happen. Just because something happens doesn't mean it's "bait and switch" or that the dealer is some big evil greedy entity that is trying to take advantage of you.

Do you people actually think that is the dealer's strategy? ...to take a deposit, string a person along for a while, all the while with the intent to sell them a model year newer vehicle for $200 more? $200 is nothing, and all that work just to make $200 sounds ridiculous.

The people I've worked with at dealers have been very reasonable. It I was in your shoes, and the dealer admitted that a mistake was made, I would certainly want to work with them to achieve a reasonable outcome.

Let's be reasonable here folks. The world isn't out to get you, it doesn't owe you anything, and most people are very reasonable. With all the accusations of the dealers being the bad guy, can you imagine how much of an AHole you guys come off as to the people who work there? You catch more flies with honey. :)

When I bought my 2014 6 months ago, I had a very pleasant experience. I'm sure that others have paid a little bit less, but I paid a very fair price for a fine truck.

A car dealers goal is to sell as many cars at the most profit as they can, from one to the next they go about it in a different way. There are some good dealers out there but there are a lot of really really bad ones. But yes all the things you discount I would bet money have happened at some of the bad ones, and more.

You've gotten some great advice here so far regarding your situation.

Only thing I'd add is that if their reply of "....for just $200.00 more for a 2015..." was their first offer to "make it right", I'd squeeze them. There's probably more deal to be had there, but the only way you'll find out is if you go after it. Dramatize the fact that they wasted your time, and that all your forum buddies are cautioning you that "something's up" about buying from this particular dealer :-) You might be surprised at how far they'll go. It's just negotiation 101.....the first offer is rarely the last/best. You just have to work a bit for it.

^ Yes.. it's not a policy but they'll do anything to get extra money.. you really think they WOULDN'T sell a vehicle to another person who's willing to pay 1-3k extra. OPEN YOUR EYES..

To give credit to the dealership, last night they did call me at 8:45PM to assure me that the vehicle has been secured for me and it will arrive in 2 weeks.

Do I need a membership to Carfax in order to check which dealer sold the VIN they gave me? I tried on their site and it just prompts me to pay for it. If anyone has a Carfax login, the VIN is JTEBU5JR3E5198523.

the only thing i saw on the Vin when i ran it was 1 thing and that was that it was "delivered to original dealer"

Ya I would assume your dealer took your down payment and then the dealer that actually had your vehicle still sold it instead of transferring it. I think you're getting a better deal with the 2015 anyways.

I googled the VIN and this came up. Is this the dealer you were working with?

I can't believe that they would try to squeeze an extra $200 out of you on a $34,XXX purchase when they screwed up. People these days. If it is "nothing" (as others have mentioned and suggested that you pay), then make them cough up the extra cash.

You can say all you want, but based on the outcome, it looks like I was correct. The simplest solution is often times the truth. I prefer to go through life with a positive outlook. Immediately assuming that everyone else is an ******* that is trying to take advantage of you seems like a sad and selfish way to live. Accidents happen, and most companies and people will try to make it right. Be kind to others, and maybe you won't be treated like an *******, because that's how you look to them. ;)

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go plant a tree so I can hug it in about 20 years.
