Dealer offered me a 2010 today vs a 2011

Now that I sold my 4th gen 4Runner today I got back to the dealers I've been emailing the last week or so much more seriously for prices. My local dealer of all things came up with the best car and price ($377 over invoice but I haven't worked it yet) but his car is a 2010, he says it's the only one in the state like it (no third row seat) in silver. Should I be concerned about a 2010 vs a 2011 or wait for a 2011? Thanks!

There is no appreciable difference between the two (unless you found a 4cyl), I would have gladly bought a 2010 instead of my 2011 if I could have saved some money :)

On 2010 models, you should be able to get atleast $500 below invoice without haggling. Check out cars.overstock.com; don't type "www". I'd go with a 2010 if you can save $$$; 2010s are identical to 2011, I believe.

Agree with both posts above. I got my 2010 TE $1700 below invoice using USAA's service. I really wanted a 2011, but couldn't pass up the deal. I don't regret it one bit. The money saved payed for Shrockwork sliders, Weathertech mats, cargo liner, and BFG T/A KOs and Zaino =)

I doubt that he can't find another like it, but more like he's trying to offload his 2010s to make room for the 2011s. Call around within a 100 mile radius and you'll see he's FOS. If you're ok with the 2010 get it, but you should be getting it below invoice, not over.

It's all about the money. There's no reason to buy a 2010 unless it's significantly less expensive than an '11.

If he's got you thinking $377 above invoice is a good price, I submit he's also way-overpricing his 2011's.

Does he know you've sold your 4R? If so, he's knows you're eager. Your best friend is the patience to wait and negotiate. Smart to not trade your old 4R BTW.

I agree. I paid $500 below invoice in July.

I don't know about anyone else, but if I were buying right now I'd prefer a '10 to a '11 and here's why~ I put almost 20,000 miles per year on my vehicles and I'd rather, 5 years from now, to be selling or trading-in a low-mile '10 as opposed to a high-mile '11. My 2001 Maxima was deliverred January 2nd 2001 and I realized after-the-fact that I'd have been better off $-wise if I had picked one of the 2000's they had left instead...same vehiclke otherwise...
YMMV, though it may be worth your time to check out Edmunds used 4Runner pricing of 2 model-years with hi vs lo mileage.

Food for thought anyway

:iagree: If you drive a lot of miles, the 2010 would give you a head start essentially.

As others are stating, this dealer is trying to work you. Let me guess, he is offering $500 off MSRP on the 2011! Remember a vehicle takes the biggest depreciation hit the first year. It sounds like others in this forum can get a 2011 at, around or even under invoice. Take this into consideration when working your deal.

If the dealer is trying to unload 2010s he may not be willing to discount the 2011s heavily. I would call around and find someone who is.
