Dealer said they are telling on me to Toyota

Took my 2013 in for seat warranty work. 3 days later I go to pick it up and they said the found multiple loose aftermarket fasteners on the from suspension. They also made notes on my paperwork that my suspension was aftermarket and could not be worked on under Toyota warranty.

The writer could not tell me what "fastener" was loose, he tried to say it was several of the aftermarket ones. So I said well that leaves only the 3 top plate bolts and the one upper ball joint bolt.

He said he could not say for sure, but because of the modifications on my truck he was obligated to take pictures and send the to Toyota so they can "adjust" my warranty.

I have up trying to explain to him that he was wrong, but he assured me I would be getting a letter from Toyota voiding my warranty....what a tool.

To make it even better he wrote on my paperwork that my sway bar was missing and he tried to tell me it has to be there for the vehicle to steer. So I guess KDSS shuts off your steering? Don't remember seeing that in the pamphlet.

I know it's just dealership babble but I thought I would share.

What a load of crap, especially since he couldn't tell you which 'fasteners' were lose? And wtf were they doing looking at your suspension if it was in for a seat problem? Lame...

Besides how will that void your warranty? The way I understand the warranty and modifications is that it can only void warranty if the modification was the direct cause of any issue.

So for instance if your tranny or engine were to blow up... how is that the fault of the suspension?

Yeah that's crap. No bolt on parts can void your warranty. There are many dealerships across the US and Canada that install aftermarket suspension and sell them on brand new Toyota trucks from the factory.

And I don't understand the issue with the parts being lose. What's the big deal? Isn't one of the items on the checklist to inspect suspension? It was on our 5000 mile that we just did on our '14 corolla. If it's lose, tighten it, why the heck does it matter why it's lose?

No one likes a snitch.

If it were me and depending on the kind of mood I were in, I might've stayed there and raised hell until the dealership's owner gets involved. I absolutely hate being treated like a tool, by a tool. :rockthrow:

Thats ridiculous! It never ceases to amaze me how they're can be soo many Tools that work at the dealerships with such a lack of knowledge,,, more than half of the time i've ever talked to anybody at the dealership they know far less about any of the vehicles they sell and work on than i do.

Since they took pics, demand to see those pics. I would also file a complaint with the BBB. If your vehicle was only there to have seat work performed, they have no reason to be poking around at your suspension. Sounds like a jealous little prick if you ask me. I'd would've raised hell and asked to speak to the manager. If that wouldn't have got me anywhere, I would've punched him in the face and told him to void that.

I don't recommend the last one but I have a short fuse in situations like that.

They have no idea, they are just so against modifications up here. When I use to pull one of my trucks in a service dept in TX, I would get service writers and techs coming to look at it.. Here, they treat you like idiot for messing with things.

Agreed, there was nothing loose, they were just trying to big brother me and tattle. It's more comical than anything else, but still mildly frustrating.

Snitches get stitches.

To these guys it's just a job, and most of them are not even care people.

Lol, my wife said she wanted to swing on him..... They were just grasping for straws, and I was the nail sticking up.

I forgot to mention, I asked them about the drive line clunk.......

Wait for it..........

That say it's my modified suspension causing the noise.

Yup, no joke, they said "when you switch out moving components, it's nearly impossible to keep it from ruining something".

BTW..... I always play the " inexperienced consumer" when dealing with these people, if you let on that you know WAY more than they do, it turns them into the service nazi.

Boy, it's really a battle for your soul between the forces of good and evil, isn't it.

an alignment tech told me once that he couldn't align my 4runner because of the aftermarket suspension and wheel spacers. i asked him to explain why. he couldn't, so he put it up and aligned it while i watched. i usually find that when someone tells me i screwed something up, i ask them why. if they can't explain why or how, they aren't right

Well, I hope he doesn't come visit my service department while we're installing lifts on new vehicles for our lot. Being a service manager I'd say he's full of doodoo, and would suggest a more customer friendly dealership. I'd also return the favor on his service survey when it arrives.

What dealer did you go to?

:gun5:

The one in Dublin. Tansky Sawmill.

I have tried West also, went in to get a timing belt done and they said the tech that does that is on another big job.... I packed up and left.

I have used tansky on a couple timing belts, some cam seals and other stuff. My 5th gens just don't seem welcome there.

You should try Germain Toyota albeit out of the way for most here in town. Ask for Mike who has the modded out FJ to do your work from now on. They have treated me well there in the past after tons of issues with my brakes and whatnot and didn't nickel and dime me and Mike knows his way around the T4R. Glenn was the name of the assistant service manager I always dealt with.

Toyota Direct off of Morse is the place to go. The tech's there are great. The guy that has done work on my 4R drives a 3rd gen. Great people to talk to.

I have never heard good things in particular about Tansky or West. Never bothered with Germain.

I will check them out. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

YOU should write a letter to toyota about the DEALER's shady practices. They are in the wrong. They took it upon themselves to examine parts and systems you neither asked for nor authorized. They were unwilling and unable to answer your simple questions with any supporting proof = incompetent and/or shady. They were making blatantly false disavowals of their responsibilities vis-a-vis warranty coverage.

They are in the wrong.

I sent a letter message to Toyota once about a really twisted shady dealer. They responded with (in short) we try to to get involved with business decisions made at the store level.

And then toyota of Dallas did the bait and switch on me, I did my purchase over the phone and drove out to sigh the papers at 11pm. I told them I wanted the Toyota platinum warranty. So when I signed it said platinum warranty 5-75k. For $2300.

Come to find out it was some third party insurance/warranty company. When I called them on it, they said (I had not bought new in 10 years) Toyota don't offer it any more, this was my only option. At the point I signed it was 11:40 at night, there is only 3 of us there. So I signed and took it and called them on it later.

I did some checking, and found that I was lied to, canceled the other warranty. But still, they are living about Toyota warranty and pushing garbage in its place to make a few hundred extra back end. Toyota dies not care, it's the dealers choice what add-ons to sell.
