Dealer said they are telling on me to Toyota

I sent a letter message to Toyota once about a really twisted shady dealer. They responded with (in short) we try to to get involved with business decisions made at the store level.

And then toyota of Dallas did the bait and switch on me, I did my purchase over the phone and drove out to sigh the papers at 11pm. I told them I wanted the Toyota platinum warranty. So when I signed it said platinum warranty 5-75k. For $2300.

Come to find out it was some third party insurance/warranty company. When I called them on it, they said (I had not bought new in 10 years) Toyota don't offer it any more, this was my only option. At the point I signed it was 11:40 at night, there is only 3 of us there. So I signed and took it and called them on it later.

I did some checking, and found that I was lied to, canceled the other warranty. But still, they are living about Toyota warranty and pushing garbage in its place to make a few hundred extra back end. Toyota dies not care, it's the dealers choice what add-ons to sell.
I would go ahead and mail, certified delivery, a short letter to Toyota, the dealership, and the state attorney general detailing the incident, making each aware the other is being mailed a copy. The state attorney general's office can be surprisingly responsive to such complaints. It may not produce a result, but at least you're creating a record and calling them out on their BS. And continue to recite the story to every other Toyota owner you cross paths with.
It sucks getting done dirty by Dbags.

I work in insurance claims and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 is what you need to reference. There are a lot provisions of this act, but your situation is protected by the act. They have to prove your aftermarket parts caused the failure. There is also a portion that protects consumers against warranty modification.

Took my 2013 in for seat warranty work. 3 days later I go to pick it up and they said the found multiple loose aftermarket fasteners on the from suspension. They also made notes on my paperwork that my suspension was aftermarket and could not be worked on under Toyota warranty.

The writer could not tell me what "fastener" was loose, he tried to say it was several of the aftermarket ones. So I said well that leaves only the 3 top plate bolts and the one upper ball joint bolt.

He said he could not say for sure, but because of the modifications on my truck he was obligated to take pictures and send the to Toyota so they can "adjust" my warranty.

I have up trying to explain to him that he was wrong, but he assured me I would be getting a letter from Toyota voiding my warranty....what a tool.

To make it even better he wrote on my paperwork that my sway bar was missing and he tried to tell me it has to be there for the vehicle to steer. So I guess KDSS shuts off your steering? Don't remember seeing that in the pamphlet.

I know it's just dealership babble but I thought I would share.

welcome to the world of modified cars, I have had my warranty voided on my subaru STi back in the day for similar reason, but alot of aftermarket stuff they didn't care about as long as it was no related to the warranty issue. Toyota does so many warranty issues/service recalls they just look as it as one less person to deal with.

The dealership is in the wrong and they should be made aware. I know its a lot of effort but I would go to the BBB, Toyota, and anyone else that would be interested in hearing your tale. These guys obviously have some agenda that is not befitting a customer and their attempt to "adjust" your warranty is a blatant violation of laws in place. The statement made about how installing non-Toyota parts causes problems is absolute ignorant drivel and just on that basis the entire ordeal should be made public and if Toyota won't step up and explain what they need to "adjust" and how it DOESN'T violate warranty laws in place, I would take legal recourse.

Update:

I spoke with the regional Toyota Customer service Rep (Jason if it matters). He assured me that the dealer was just pounding their chest. And based on the information they have, my warranty is just fine.

He said they get this a lot in areas where vehicle modification is not very common. He also said if you walk into a Toyota dealer and the parts department is the size of a small bedroom, it's most likely they are not into accessories and the dealer as a whole may be a little "protective".

I'm still trying to resolve the stuff the dealer did with my warranty.

That's good to hear, but the reality is this dealership is obviously biased and thus unable to hear their customers properly. The 120/150 Platforms have a known driveline clunk and they are already dismissing it as part of your modifications which is utter carp. While I applaud this "Jason" for being straightforward, they [Toyota] need to do a better job of ensuring proper customer service in dealerships representing their products, quality, and service.

Nice follow through on both your and Jason's/Toyota part. What most impresses me is Jason's apparent transparency re what was going on. This is is exactly the kind of transparency that breeds trust as opposed to the empty 'customer issue management' tactics many a business uses to explain away and deny it's obligations.
Any word on the driveline clunk?

As a service manager here in chicago we've had a couple modded Fj. Tundras he'll even some tcs. (Had a 6"lift Tacoma come in. We all drooled over it before he just wanted an oil change) customers ask me all the time "will my aftermarket remote start void my warranty." No. My tech would have to prove that the alarm is the actual fault for it to void.(for example) But even then it's not worth the headaches of a pissed off customer. Especially with our new customer service index surveys all Toyota customers get. If I told my customer "I told Toyota on you" I'd be in a trick bag with the service director. Gm, owner THEN Toyota. Toyotas money is just as green as your money sir. I like spending Toyota money first.

^^^This is how all service depts. should be. My limited experience with the toyota dealers around here has been good so far though. It's usually the domestic service depts. that throw a fit over mods.

No one likes a snitch.

If it were me and depending on the kind of mood I were in, I might've stayed there and raised hell until the dealership's owner gets involved. I absolutely hate being treated like a tool, by a tool. :rockthrow:

Do you really want some 55 year old fat man to pry himself off of his 17 year old mistress, wipe the waterfall of coke off of his nose and chin, put on a pair of pants, gargle with lysol, then drive a "demo model" over to the dealership to tell you that he'll give you a free oil change for your trouble?

Oh hell yes.
