I just dropped off my T4R for the accelerator pedal recall and asked what it would cost to change the differential fluid. I was quoted $189 EACH for front and rear ! Are the nuts? almost $400 to change front & rear differential fluid, their defense was that they don't just drain the fluid they use a machine to flush it. Obviously I turned them down. Has anyone had their diffentials changed at a Toyota Dealership and what did they charge you?

I had F&R diffs, transfer case, transmission fluid/filter, engine oil/filter and cabin filter changed recently at my indy. They also lubed the prop-shaft etc, did a complete inspection, checked out my TPMS problem and changed the serpentine belt. I provided all the fluids/parts and was charged $106 for labor.

The dealer cost for the differential fluid change is mostly for the oil i think.
I had mine done a week or so ago and it was VERY pricey, mostly due to the oil thats used in the diff's and the transfer case. I remember that the oils were 2 different kinds, as the 2 diff's are different and require different lube's.
I asked about a tranny flush and fill, but they said its a sealed-unit and good for 100k. I said, "my '03 gets it done every 30k! Are they different trannys?"
So i pose that question to you guys. Have I been getting hosed? Is the 08 tranny different from the 03? Is one changeable and the other not necessary due to a design change?

Haven't looked into it on my 4R yet, but on both of my Volvos, they say the same thing. The dealer basically won't do a tranny flush as there is no need. I think a lot of vehicles are like that now, but it sure seems odd to me.
wow my dealer must a real 'Stealership". People that don't know anything about cars really get ripped off by them.
Well my dealership was a stealership as well. But i talked to Toyota about replacing my rear door handle and how the stealership is runining their fine vehicles. Then the stealership turned into a dealership. Lets see how long that lasts.

So then how much is a decent price range for a V8 tranny flush n fill w/ new filter?
People have been quoted around $200 for it in the US but others have been hosed for much more. Of course in Canada you are required to leave your first born child as a deposit.

How did you start talking about tranny flushes from Differential flushes?
If you're talking just differentials (axles) then you're getting ripped off. It's just like changing oil with a drain and a fill plug. Do it in your driveway.
For transfer case (center diff?) and transmission they do have machines that will flush a lot more out than you can get so that may be worth it.
