Dealership Service Dept. - What do you have performed?

I’ve been using my dealership to perform my servicing on my ‘13 SR5. I had always changed my own oil until I bought the 4Runner and found it uses cartridge filters and that my local Toyota dealership charges $59 for a synthetic oil change.

The last two times I’ve taken it, they’ve began giving me a high-pressure pitch to “service the induction system.” They want $75 for this and my truck only has 70k miles. I recently cleaned the throttle body and it wasn’t very dirty. They also keep insisting that I change the battery because it’s only at 330 cold cranking amps.

Does anyone have any experience with this “induction system service?” Is this just to pour some fuel system cleaner in the engine? Should I need this at 70k miles?

Looks like a bottle of Techron in the tank, about 5 minutes of cleaning the TBI opening, and a few minutes of sucking Seafoam into the intake.

Save some $$, do it yourself...

if that is your original battery you should be planning on replacing it in the next year anyways

Agree on the battery being almost done. However, I am a big opponent of using the Dealership battery, especially without the big coupon they occasionally put out ($89 or so). #1, if it fails under warranty, you have to get to a dealer to replace it, and #2, you'll pay them $19.99 for the labor to do it. Auto parts stores do this for free (or do it yourself) and are more plentiful if you do run into an issue. I pass 2 Advanced Auto stores on the way to any dealer from my house, and the warranties are very similar.

Dealers love the high pressure sales pitch, it's where they actually make their money. $175 to change my plugs? Really?
