Decided On My Lift Combo.... Opinions Welcomed

I have the 7 inch pro wheels with 285 nitto ridge grapplers mounted and jba uca's . It is not even close to rubbing. I have about 3/8 to 1/2 inch of clearance between the tire and the control arm.

That's good to hear!!! [emoji106]

Jba

I have the trail edition 7.5" wide rim. Spoke to Marlin at JBA and he thought I would have 1/4" of clearance but but unfortunately not..

From JBA's site:

Please Note: 32.7" and larger diameter tires need aftermarket wheels with less then factory wheel back space. Tire Size Calculator

Wheel recommendation

LT285/70R17 (32.7" x 11.2") tire on 17 x 9 wheel, -12mm offset (4.50" backspace)

LT285/75R16 (32.8" x 11") tire on 16 x 9 wheel, -19mm offset (4.25" back space)

LT255/85R16 (33.10" x 10") tire on 16 x 8 wheel, -12mm offset (4" back space)

LT315/70R17 (34.4" x 12.4") tire on 17 x 9 wheel, -25mm offset (4.00" backspace)

Tire sizes that work well with the JBA UCAs

265/75R16 tire 31.6" x 10.4" on factory wheels

255/75R17 tires 32.1" x 10" on factory wheels

275/65R18 tires 32.1" x 10.8" on factory wheels

Any tire that is 32" diameter and smaller there is no fitment problem.

The trail wheels and pro wheels have different backspacing. That could account for our different results. My wheel and tire combination is not even close to rubbing the uca.

I know the trail wheels are also 1/2" wider as well.

I think that's the shock body size but I could be wrong

However, I was wondering the same thing. I'm not familiar with the the hyperflex coils but was assuming they are larger/provide more lift/spring than the superflex which seems common in an unloaded setup. I didn't see a lot a weight listed that would affect the rear

It IS the shock body which is why I asked why 2.5" up front and 2" in the rear,

OP, we are talking not about lift height but the actual shock diameter.

Why 2" Front and 2.5" Rear?

Ah ok you asked it the other way around which is why I was confused. The way they explained it is the different in the way the front suspension works 2:1 ratio and the rear world 1:1. You need the larger 2.5" up front but can easily get away with the 2.0" in the back. Let me find the video of you'd like to watch it.

Sorry about mixing up the two. Anyways I’ve never heard of this kind of explanation and even he hedges on it in the video. Anyways, good luck with it.

After doing a ton of research and talking to as many people and companies as I could this is what I have chosen. My goals are a 100% daily driver with a few events a year and a little wheeling here at home. Wanted good street manors, good ride quality, low noise, good for anything off-road and high quality. Opinions and comments welcomed.

Front:

-Fox 2.5" RR Coilovers customs valved & tuned by Accutune Off Road

-Upgraded to Eibach 650# springs (for hybrid bumper & winch later)

-JBA HC UCAs

-Toytec Diff Drop (Accutune said not really needed but couldn't hurt)

Rear:

-Fox 2.0 RR Extended Travel Shocks

-Toytec Superflex 2" Rear Springs

-Stock Bump Stops (Accutune said that the Fox Shocks have enough travel so they are not needed)

I'll also run the BFG KO2s in LT285/70R17 C Load Range Tires

Save your money. Do the Cornfed spacer lift. Keep your OEM wheels and wrap them in Cooper STT PRO 305/70.

You will have zero rubbing even at full articulation and you can still wheel medium to hard trails without any issues. How would I know? Because this is my setup and I've put the spacer lift and the large tires on a small wheel through it's paces without any issues.

The Cooper STT Pros are not loud either. Once you get going and have your music on you won't hear them. Plus they look absolutely sick.

Gotcha. Yeah going with the remote reservoirs and for what I will be doing with the truck he says I'll be just fine and can save a lot of money. I won't be don't a rear bumper or heavy hauling. I like people that don't try and over sell.

On another note when I was talking with Toytec they also recommend the 2.0" in the rear.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really wanting to do spacers. I had them on my FJ and wasn't very happy with the ride. Also had them on my GMC and hated them. I did run the STT Pros on it and you are right they are a great tires as far as noise and off roading. I found them very clunky at low speeds though.

So many people run that tire is hard to go wrong. Would you not recommend the C rating. I'm trying to stay as light as possible bring is an LT tire. Thanks again.
I wouldn’t have a problem running a C rated tire where you live and that geographical area. You don’t have the rugged big rocks that we have out west. The 285 on a 17” wheel has more sidewall to give a nicer ride and absorb sharp impacts better. You will save some weight also.

That is a good point but my first trip after the lift and tires will be the FJ Summit in Ouray. Looking at the KO2 the weights fall out like this:
C = 51#
D = 56#
E = 59#

I still think I will go with the Cs. I'll get the Discount Tire road Hazard Certificates anyway so they can buy me a new one if I rip the sidewall LOL

Do you have a good place for the spare with a matching wheel?

No just the factory location. I'll just carry my stock spare and use it in an emergency.
Try and get a used 285 at least on a used trail rim in case. Another reason I went 275 was that I could fit a 275-70-17 spare in the factory location. Not sure a 285 will fit properly in that location, although I’ve heard of some members saying you can make it fit. The size difference between a 265 and a 285 is quite a bit if you have to drive a ways. Also, the factory spare on the Pro is like a passenger tire.

Not a bad idea. I wonder if a 285 would fit there? If not a 275 would be fine as well. I'll have to do some searching. Thanks.

What corn fed spacer lift are you running to fit 305/70's? Did you have to regear? BMC and mods needed? I dont see that size listed on the cooper website.... are they the 305/65? Intrested in your setup, looks great.

Not this ^

Anytime someone starts their recommendation with “save your money” and “spacers” you should cringe and ignore.....spend the couple hundred more and get springs. The drive quality and off road performance difference is night and day.

Yeah agreed. I think I'm going to go ahead with the adjustable ones as well now. Already spending $3K plus what's another $350.
