Neoprene is the material used to make wetsuits. I guess if you don't like the material, you don't like it...but when I was living in Hawai'i it was great to have as seat cover material after going to the beach. I would agree that neoprene is not an exclusive material, but if you lead a fairly active outdoor/athletic lifestyle it will prevent your stock seats from absorbing sweat, dirt, water, etc. I am looking to get some for my 4Runner as my daily physical training with the Army can sometimes lead to me being covered in mud and then having to get into the 4Runner dirtying up the stock seats. Having neoprene seat covers would prevent that from happening, and I could remove them and hose them off to clean them.
BTW - the VW Bug was awesome. It was a '67 baby blue, lowered on stock steel wheels (sleeper look) with a 2110cc motor, dual Weber 48IDA carbs, welded German heads w/ 42mm intake valves, 37.5mm exhaust. I'd post a picture of it, but it was in my stable far before digital cameras and USB cables and the like existed.
