Decision on ARB bumper

The only thing discouraging me from purchasing it is the price somewhat and the effect in mpgs to the 4runner. This is my DD but will give me more reassurance bc ppl in parking lots have a tendency to bump my brush guard.

So i guess the ultimate question is should i buy the ARB bumper for $500 or wait later on down the line in hopes of finding a better deal?

Yes. I kept my tow hook on the one side under the mount because the bolts are long and may be too long without it. In other words, you could either use the tow hook as a big spacer to soak up some of the length of the stock bolts or get the same size (thread) bolts but shorter. I though it was just easier to re-use them though. Hope that made sense.
 
ok sweet i think i gotcha... i just needed to make sure the bolt that went all the way through the bracket was not needed to be purchased. If i get wat ur saying, both will be long enough and the one that goes through the entire bracket is actually too long so i should leave the hook in there.
 
Yes. And some people have drilled through the top of the frame and thru-bolted with extra long bolts, however I didn't feel that was necessary, especially with welding the 1" strips that I did. I would definitely do one of the reinforcement methods I mentioned above even if you don't plan on winching with it because you probably will use it to push, pull or get pulled at some point and that puts an equal amount of stress on it as winching.
 
i am planning to drill the hole on the top of the frame... so are the bolts still long enough if i take out both hooks and use the short bolt for the front hole in the bracket and the long ones in the rear or should i get some at home depot/lowes?
 
I don't remember if they're long enough to use them as thru-bolts without the hook on there, maybe. I guess just take them out and measure. I'm thinking no.
 
ok... dang well looks like i need to find out all the measurements for all the bolts i need so i can pick them up before i run over to a friend's house to get help on the install.
 
ok so apparently ARB i closed on saturdays and sundays... so im not sure on what i should do bout figuring out which bolts to use/need.
 
I would just take your existing bolts out and match them up at the store. Pep Boys or somewhere like that should have a table that you can thread your bolts into to find out what size and diameter the threads are. And then you can just measure how long they'll need to be, probably ~4-4.5".
 
well im just worried about the bolts that go from the bracket to the bumper bc its seems that they have threads in them... i wonder if i can just walk in with the braket into lowes/home depot and figure out wat size i need and i can guess-timate the length.

Yeah, I don't see why you couldn't take a mount in with you. I think mine are ~1" long threads IIRC.
 
ok well looks like ill be hitting up lowes or home depot tomorrow morning before i head over to the "wrench-a-thon" at my friend's house...

lol ya it was a random buy bc the promo code for the pioneer avh's (30% off) ended and didnt feel like 25% after they upped the prices was a good deal so i saw the ARB on CL and my gf told me to get it... Kool thing is that i ended up getting a Pioneer Avic-D3 tonight too and just finished the install so ill get some pics up tom of that and the ARB once im hopefully done. So ive got big plans for tom!

lol thnx chris and ya mauzer im gonna try to go over to ben's around noon... i just had a FUN *sarcastic* time at home depot figuring out all the hardware i needed for the install. U going over to ben's? i could definitely use the help and maybe u can show me how u got that ps2 in ur 4runner.

I don't keep it in my Runner cause I don't want some asshat to steal it, but all I did was get a slim PS2 car adapter from ebay (PS2 Car Charger Power Adaptor Hottest for Sony 4091 - eBay (item 180371906083 end time Oct-14-10 20:59:00 PDT)) and used the RCA cable it came with. The adapter is plugged into the cig lighter then goes under the shift panel, the RCA goes from the back of my screen then under the shifter panel. Both run beneath the console panels and then under my passenger seat. I haven't hard mounted the PS2 but if I did I would just run everything to the glovebox and then just fab some brackets (or maybe even velcro?) to hold it in place since the glovebox locks.
