Deck Plate mod, before and after (dirt road drivers only)

Top filter is after a week of dirt roads, not following another vehicle, with the stock V6 air intake. The lower filter is after a week of dirt roads (similar dry conditions as above), not following another vehicle, but with the deck plate mod, with the plate removed. The picture doesn't really show the difference as much as you see in person.

Since I drive this vehicle primarily on dirt, I should've done this years ago!

The stock air box pulls air from inside the passenger fender wheel opening which is a rather dusty place depending on the conditions you drive in. The OP was sure to note that his results were when NOT FOLLOWING another truck through dusty conditions. If following another truck, I'm sure the filter with the deck plate mod would have been as bad, or worse that the stock intake setup air filter.

Yes, the vast majority of my dirty travels is leading a group, or solo, so almost never following. I don't believe the filter would be dirtier when following someone with the deckplate removed vs. the stock intake. Both options would be super dirty. BTW, the dirty filter in the supplied picture was cleaned several times during the week by beating it on the ground (you can see the deformed plastic where it was damaged from beating it on rough asphalt), while the clean filter pictured was not cleaned. A snorkel is the next step, primarily to pick up clean air, more so than to not ingest water.

I think its funny that people somehow think that the air right behind the headlight is somehow dirtier than the air in the fender well...

I close my deckplate for long journeys, just to quiet it down. Otherwise, I enjoy the sound for my short daily commute.

This thread reminds me that I should probably change the filter, it has been a few years...
