deckplate mod done?

no pics but im sure most know what it is.

I notice nothing. waste of time and money. not worth it. rather spend that extra and pick up a intake instead with what i spent to modify this airbox. I even drove it without the airfilter and still nothing. Peace!

My ride already has a deeper sound cause of my magnaflow. Drove without the stock airfilter around the block to see if there was any diff. Is it because I need to change the filter to notice a difference.
I didnt have all the tools and parts that cost me about 150 and plus if I get the K&n filter or ams prob be another 100. Thats why I said it wasnt worth it. Cause a intake brand new probablly be roughly 100 bucks.

WHAT!?!?! you drove your 4runner without an airfilter?? thats prob your first problem...

what are you thinking??

and what did you spend to modify the airbox?? I bought a K&N for half price and these guys still got 5x the value from their deckplate mod.

we need more specifics man... if you dont notice anything, than something isnt right.

Yeah post up some pics. I noticed a little after the dp mod. It wasnt much but I figured for the 7 bucks I spent on it I could take the loss. If anything it should sound a little better at higher rpm's.

Still way cheaper than a filter charger kit for the same 6-8whp even if it's not noticeable every HP helps with a 3rd gen plus for $10 and a half hour of my time I have no regrets. Now if I spent $300 on a filter kit I would have 300 regrets.

I put on the K&N FIPK while I was in CO in hopes of it saving me some money on the 1500 mile drive home...I don't think it did, but it does seem to give me a little more power in the mid-range....not off the line, but somewhere between 40 and 60 mph it seems to have more power...does that make sense to anyone?

I would pay more attention to the rpm range.

To the OP, from what I've read the elbow needs to be removed as well. That would further reduce the airflow restriction built into the factory air box. Of course that also renders the deckplate just about useless.

That makes sense about the rpm's and elbow...I would be interested to see if anyone with a scanguage or similar product has run actual numbers before and after to see if the deckplate mod is better or worse than an intake...or maybe I just need to try the search feature!

Here's some good info. Supposedly our K&Ns are worse overall. I didn't learn about the deckplate until a few years later. Oh well, I still think mine looks better

Ok, thats depressing...I worked pretty hard for that 300 bucks when I could have just cut a hole in the airbox...:ybrick:

lol ive been procrastinating on doing the deckplate and well i stumbled upon a K&N FIPK for $25 from a kid i know... i thought bout buying it but waited too long bc he now has a buyer.

what is wrong with this guy its a dp mod not a magical air intake. all i have to say is FAIL and 150bucks WHAT!!!

Damn 150 bucks you definately didnt do something right.

For my DP mod i just cut a big sqaure int he front of the box and put a black piece of thick mesh over it, i dont do alot of deep water wheeling so no need for a resealable hole. I also did the ISR mod with it and all in all i think i spent 2 bucks on some brass nipples for the vacuum lines i can tella slight different in acceleration and a big difference in sound.

I dont know what you guys are doing to your 4runners...

but I started with stock airbox, OEM filter and it sucked with my normal 16 inch wheels and 265/75 tires..

So I bought the K&N filter that goes in the stock airbox. I noticed a signifigant difference in power, mpg etc.

I never did the deckplate mod or left the latch open like Steeze does and still experienced noticeable gains... and keep in mind, I live at high elevation and drive in the mountains ALL the time. and when I went to sea level (Sactown and The City), I noticed a HUGE gain! it was amazing.

I then got my lift, put 285/75 tires upgraded to the 16x8 wheels and kept the K&N stock filter rplcmnt in a few weeks and was sluggish as all can be.

A few weeks later I put on the K&N CAI that I got for like 100$ off cuz 4wheel parts is stupid and broke my tie rod and told me that my 4runner would be done at 4pm on my sons bday and didnt finish til almost 7p...

HUGE gains... especially in the torque dept... K&N claims like 18lbs of torque at 3400 or something and they are soooo right, my acceleration of the line is better, albeit not the best, but I run 33's...

FoneRunner, you have another issue, we will figure it out when you come out here next time, I want to drive that thing, cuz you have a 4runner that is 5 years newer than mine and its slow as ... a snail... LOL slow as a snail!

Maybe the combo of my Bosch plugs and K&N is really the match made in heaven, a perfect example of synergy!

I haven't a clue if there are any more horses in there, but it sure sounds good at 3/4+ throttle and I get better initial response from a stop.

Except for a supercharger, I chalk up all the intake and exhaust stuff on 3rd gens to personalization of our rigs. They mostly result in small gains, but are definitely worth the hobby of it all.
