thinking about doing this to my '96 Limited 4WD as soon as i have enough time. i found this sight on another thread...

and was wondering if the supply list would be the same as that guy's Runner is a 99...

All of the 3.4L V6 airboxes are identical (including Tacoma's), so yes, the supply list would be the same.

I would think so. Is yours a V6? I think all the V6 air boxs are the same for the 3rd gen.

Who stocks the amsoil filters? or are they online only?


well found the k&n price and they should be close. about $50 for the filter. The hole you drill in the box requires a hole saw. and the deck place is probably $10-20.

You could try the cheap version if you arent going offroad and put a 1" hole in the box until you get the filter and deckplate in. probably only take 20 min once you get everything.

You can just trace the deckplate and drill a series of holes around the trace line if you don't have a hole saw bit. It won't look as pretty but the deckplate ring will cover up the rough spots and you'll never see it.

It shouldn't take much more than an hour to do.

It has been proven to add 6-8whp and for some proven ponies it was just to easy to resist but from the seat of the pants feel you will notice a little better throttle response and you can hear the intake a little at WOT but it's not as noisey as some people complain about.

Miles per gallons gains are negligible but like I said the mod was so easy it doesn't hurt and if you don't liek it then you can just put the plate back in and leave it.

I'm curious as to why you have to use sensor safe sealant? The mass air sensor is on the other side of the air filter, and if you let the sealant dry properly, I don't see where the problem would be. Enlighten me?

Just a precaution since the filter can't filter the fumes and they can contaminate the MAF since they are pretty sensitive.

Oh so it is the fumes that the RTV gives off, not the RTV itself?
