Deckplate Mod

Greetings from Prescott AZ! I am a new 4runner (00) owner and I love it! This is also my first post. After lurking around this forum (best one I could find) I have concluded that the only mod worth doing is the deckplate mod. I am assuming that the negative effect of hot air going into the air box is offset by the benefit of less restriction.

Here is my question: Since there is no water to get into here in AZ I was thinking of running a 2

Not sure about that idea, but hey, give it a try and let us know! I suspect that a 2" inlet into the airbox is going to be a bit restrictive and the number of bends in the pipe that will be needed is going to make it a little tough for air to move in, even with any ram effect you may have.
Also, warm air is not a bad thing when you are talking about mpg. The hotter the air, the faster and more complete the combustion. Warm air is also less dense and requires less fuel to keep the air/fuel mixture ratio in the ideal range.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I did not know that warm air had a positive effect on gas mileage. I just assumed that since cold air was good for HP it would be good for gas mileage. I think I wall pass along this opportunity for experimentation to some other modder and just stick with the deck plate mod, which I already did. I wouldn

Also when posting MPGs also include info like 2wd or 4,manual or 5speed since those are big factors when people are comparing 4Runners.

I am happy with the Toyota genuine air filter, so I'm not going to offer any advice on filter choices, but many others have run the various brands so perhaps a search might yeild some results there. And the Magnaflow? Go for it, can only be good I reckon!
