A bug repellant???!! Wow, saw some videos of this. Now I never want to use it as repellant...... But seriously, I would STILL use some sort of protection AFTER you restore them.

Yup bug repellent....just a little bit and no scrubbing...it took like a minute. Now mine were not very bad just a little cloudy but it works....unreal..and yea...think Ill just live with the bugs from now on

No idea.....but I had some rainx sealer that I applied after.the rainx kit socks by the way....we shall see

Ha! My dad just did this to his F250 last weekend and I thought he was nuts. Worked surprisingly well. It's like it "melted" the oxidation right off.
But I agree that it's crucial to protect the plastic after cleaning them. I know a lot of folks use RainX and other plastic protectant stuff, but I usually just throw on a coat or two of Meguiars afterwards and can go 3 or 4 months without re-cleaning.

this. dont fall into this gimmick. Itll work initially then it will come back quickly. This "trend" is running rampant on forums right now.

think I'll try it (the OFF), then follow it with some soap and see if they are still clear

Huh? How is soap going to protect your newly restored lens with UV rays?

If the fog comes back after the soap washes off the OFF then it just oil'ed up the tiny scratches in the plastic or coated the yellow with something that makes it disappear.

Well the yellow came back after the $20 rain x kit to start so nothing to lose with off....if I have to use it every month for 3 years I figure I still win....time will tell

Well, it was cool while it lasted, hahaha. This reminds me of people using mineral spirits/toothpaste to restore lenses. Sure it will clean it up, but the oxidation ALWAYS comes back. Fast. Mine are starting to yellow toward the top. Spring time I plan on properly restoring them (using chemical kit/wet sanding/OptiLens) to see how they last. My lights are retro'ed so I HAVE to do something soon before they get bad.
Have you tried to "off" them again, but using a spray on "clear coat" to protect them? That's another "cheap" option.

Sorry I wasn't very clear.....the yellow has NOT come back from the off....it came back from the rainx kit i did last year...off is still working....I did seal it with the sealer from the rainx kit though

Getting ready to do mine as well and would like to do it right so I dont have to mess with it again for a long time. That optilens stuff is expensive! Will do it if people say it works but damn that is getting close to new lens status by the time the effort of sanding and cleaning go into it.

I did the OFF today. Very psychologically satisfying because the rag or napkin you apply it with really turns yellow/orange.
Anyway on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being new headlights... Mine were a 5 before treatment and 7 after. After the Deet, I soaped 'em up then used glass cleaner and applied a couple coats of RainX.
Funny thing was that the fresh rag used to apply the RainX also picked up a lot of yellow stain off the lens. Even after all that cleaning.

Jeeez, what's in OFF that apparently "melts" the plastic? I was going to try this, but I think I'll stick with the traditional way of restoring the plastic lens.
