DEFECTIVE Toyota Oil Filter!!! From Dealer!!!

I purchased two brand new oil filters from the local Toyota Dealer last week. I changed my oil today as I usually do. Drove to Home Depot. A guy sees me pulling out and asks "if that lake of oil is from my truck?" I got out and there it was - oil everywhere! I could hardly believe it. A quick look and I see oil shooting out of the bottom edge of the brand new Toyota Oil Filter. Shut her down, pulled the oil filter and sure enough - some kind of hairline split at the top where it meets the engine. Replaced it with the other filter I had bought and no issues. FIlled her back up and went on my way...

I know there is some counterfeit crap out there but I bought this from the dealer. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS ISSUE???

Still have the filter? Snap a pic and post it. I have run into two or three filters in my time that had no gasket. A close inspection before installing pays dividends.

I have been liking the Bosch Distance Plus filter as of late.

It says to inspect for any leaks after installing the filter. I do it for the past 25 years. So far so good.

I had an oil change done at the dealership. A month later the 4Runner was leaking oil pretty bad. I took it in and they said the filter was faulty

So yes it happens.

I always let the 4Runner idle as I clean up everything after I fill up the oil and get the new filter on. Helps to make sure there are no issues.

It's a mass produced part built by the cheapest bidder. There's going to be bad ones occasionally.

I had the same problem happen to me 2 weeks ago, The manufacture for the oil filter had change design and part number and the seal recessed inside the OIL FILTER area on the block just enough to allow oil pressure to actually push oil pass the seal.

Believe it or not the seal on this oil filter doesn't seal flush against the engine block, instead the outer edge of the oil filter goes metal to metal against the block trapping the seal down preventing a perfect seal.. I purchased a entire case of these oil filters from the actual manufacture so I had a entire case to measure and diag
