Definitive Answer: How long until tpms light goes out

I just picked up a new 2004 4Runner Limited 4wd V8. The tpms light was on when I got it. I had discount tire check all of the sensors, including the spare. All 5 were working properly. I have put about 100 miles on the truck in the last 4 days and the light is still on. It goes out momentarily when I start the truck and comes back on in about a second. It is a steady light, not flashing. How long does it take until it goes out? Thanks. Phil

There's something not right with your TPMS, my light goes out as soon as the engine is started and stays out unless one of the tires are low on pressure.

Sometimes the sensors can go to sleep. Try airing down each tire a few psi and then airing it back up.

Sensor serial numbers may need to be scanned and uploaded to the ECU.
(Takes up to 10 mins with a skilled tire tech and a decent TPMS scanner).

As Sparky suggested, I would recommend just getting rid of it as a whole. When I picked up my '05 my TPMS light was on as well and I just disabled it and had discount tire completely remove the sensors. Have never seen that stupid light on again.
I tend to check my tire pressure often anyways

For me personally I don't recommend disabling the TPMS unless you just can't afford to get it repaired, I don't check my tire pressure that often because I have a very busy scehdule, I do look at the driver's side often and can see when they are low, BUT I never look at the passenger side because I never have even rode on that side of my T4R, I do look at them if I'm doing some work on the 4R, I love my the TMPS because where I work is a commercial building and parking lot, there are lots of pallets loaded and unloaded everyday and nails and screws are everywhere, so if the TMPS dosen't work I would destroy my very expensive tires if they get too low on pressure before I can get the tire repaired.

I agree, it would be better to have it than not, but I personally wouldn't invest the money to fix it. Until about 2010, I never had a car with a TPMS, yet after 40 years of driving, I never ruined a tire because I didn't know it was flat. I disabled mine, and just got in the habit as a part of maintenance to check tire pressure.

I can tell when a tire is flat, I just can't tell without checking or at least looking at it if a tire is down to say 25 lbs which is when the TPMS kicks in and that's when I want to act, not much lower than that for sure, I have also never ruined a tire and don''t want too, I'm the same as you and never had TPMS before the last decade and been driving for over 45 years and it's sure nice to have and if mine stops working I will be on the fence on deciding to fix it or not, I guess it will depend on my financial situation if it happens.

Not sure on the 4th but on 5th the light goes out right away after you air up.

There is some sort of loop that toyotas can get caught in.. Read description of this listing.....

I just had tires and wheels done yesterday at Discount tire and we used my same sensors but the guy said they relearn the system just in case.

So if your sensors are good it has to be the communication to the computer by some means OR the computer is confused about what it is reading.

Did DT try to relearn your system for you? I would do that next.
