Definitive answer needed on 285/70/17

Hey guys, I know that this topic has been beat to death but I've searched, researched and searched the site even more and I can't come away with a definitive answer to the following question: Will 285/70/17 Duratracs fit my truck?

The only thing that I've done (and plan on doing for a while) to the rig that would affect the tire setup is a 2.25 procomp front spacer lift and a 1.5" rear daystar spacer lift. I have the stock t4r sr5 wheels and no XREAS suspension, just regular. It's a 04 sr5 4x4 v6. No spacers, don't want to have after market UCA's or anything like that. Don't want to mess with the body mount chop either.

I'm looking to have duratracs ordered sooner rather than later. It's a little bit easier now that they offer the 255/75/17's, but I'd much rather have the 285's.

So, again, sorry for the post as this subject has been beat to death,:yield: but I just don't want to drop close to a grand on tires that won't fit without a ton of modifications. So can I fit these 285's with my current setup?

You'll rub in a few places, wheel well liner and UCA is pretty much guaranteed. Maybe the fender well itself but since very truck is a bit different I'm not sure.

With the list of things you don't want to deal with I would advise against the 285-70-17.

I have run both the 255-75-17 & 285-70-17. The 255-75-17 fit just right with no cutting or chopping needed.

As CXS mentioned every truck is slightly different.

I had Silent Armors not Duratrack. After moving the fender liner and removing the mud flaps I still rubbed when backing up in a tight turn. I had XREAS with spacers and stock UCA. Duratrack are a little more aggressive tread. I had them on my Frontier. You will rub but it should be doable.

Without getting wheel spacers, the 285s will not fit. The 255s will be a better fit in your case. Just make note, I believe the 255 Duratracs are a P rated 4 ply, and the 285s are a D rated 8 ply. The 4 ply is fine for on road use, and the occasional minor off road use. If you're going to be off road frequently, I'd choose a different tire and/or size.

I have Icon stage 2 with uniball UCAs and I still rub the UCA with 285/70/17 BFG. Only at full lock though.

I have the same procomp spacer lift, 285's and the addition of a 1.5" body lift and I still rub a tad when reversing. I had spidertrax on the front for about two days but had to take them off because they caused even worse rubbing on the fender. You can run 285's if you are willing to do the body lift.

I did a 3" spacer kit in the front and my 265 70 17's were rubbing on the fender liners and mud flaps.

The bottom line is, with your 2.5 spacer kit, 285's are NOT going to fit.... at least not without a TON of modifying/cutting.

Thanks guys for responding. I'm pretty sure now that I'll go with the 255's. I've already spent a ton of money on this rig since I got it last winter and don't really want to spend any more than necessary (my gf would argue that none of it is necessary haha).

Cloudrunner, thanks for the info about the body lift, I'll keep it in mind for the future.

Ark, I've done extensive research on these tires and really wish that the 255's were at least C rated. I don't do a ton of wheeling but don't want something to let me down when I do. The weight of 40lbs vs the 54 lbs (285's) also helps me lean towards these tires. My runner has 190k miles already and I don't really want to add additional stress on any of the driveline components. I'll keep everyone updated once I get the tires as far as how durable they are on and off road.

Have you considered 265/70/17s? You can get the Duratracs in a C rating in this size. Its not much different in size and would be a better fit. Also consider 275/70/17, although you'd have to choose a different tire.

I have 4" of lift and I rub everywhere with my 285/70/17s. Im still cutting my fenders.

Unless you're really set on 285's, and the work they require, I'd stay away.
