Delayed shift into 3rd?

I got my 4runner a little over a month ago and this little issue is really starting to bug me. When its cold there is a delayed shift into 3rd gear...is this normal? because its cold? i always go really easy on it just after startup, and it shift fine from 1st to 2nd, but 2nd to 3rd has to rev up to almost 3000rpm before it shifts, then 3rd to overdrive is fine. i know that doesnt' sound like a big deal but its kind of annoying and i just want to make sure its not the beginning of a major problem. Once its a little bit warmed up the problem stops. should i just change the tranny fluid?

mine does the same thing when I have to get up to speed right away. I live a mile up on a hill so usually when I start its coasting down a hill till its warm enough

Same issue here, live on a hill. While coasting it lags for about 8 seconds with high RPM then gives....Only happens when just started. Anyone have a definate answer? Trany fluid temp???
