My 2 cents...
I know I already suggested some of these things in my email to you Jason, but I thought I'd share it here as well for people to give feedback and comment on....
Some of the things that are important to me in a rear bumper are:
1) Weight....this is a big one for me, as I already have a lot of added weight with my overland build.
2) swing-out options (preferably dual) for a rear tire carrier, jerry cans...etc
3) smooth, sleek, yet rugged design that compliments the 4runner. I also am not a huge fan of the CBI rear, as it looks very bulky and doesn't seem to compliment the lines of the 4runner as well as it could. I like coastaloffroad's design although I would prefer it come up the sides (instead of having to cut part of the rear panel).
4) departure angle.....as good as it can be. This is very important to me, as I feel my departure angle is a limiting factor for my offroad route selection.
5) relatively simple install with lots of strong mounting points.....it has to be tough, safe, and strong. Personally I'm not at all opposed to chopping the rear cross-member and doing some grinding work (such as 4x4labs kit), if it saves a fair chunk of weight and increases the departure angle, so long as the rear bumper replaces that cross-member's function and adds the strength back.
6) ship welded together and ready to install......there are lots of weld-together bumper kits on the market, some really good ones in fact, but the cost for me to have someone weld it together, brings it close to a CBI rear, and is a lot more time-consuming and inconvenient for me.
8) price point....I know rear bumpers are costly to R and D, and build, but I know that if the price point were lower than your competition, it would attract more customers to you. I think the pricing on your sliders and bumpers are good, especially with the discounts you guys frequently offer.

I'd be interested in seeing what you guys could come up with. As many people have already stated, the bulky somewhat awkward lines of the CBI isn't very appealing although it is currently the best option on the market. A sleek design that also offers slots to install pod lights would be a nice touch as well imo. tow points, and better clearance than the cbi would also be welcomed. Excited to see where this goes!

Most important parts are:
1) Dual swing out for tire carrier and dual jerry cans
2) Retain or keep compatibility for Gobi ladder
3) Retain Class 4 hitch capabilities. I want to tow with it and use my Thule bike rack weekly

In my opinion the biggest selling point is simplicity and weight savings plus the obvious affordability. Not all of us can afford a 2,000 rear bumper with swingout options. I've thought about this for a while now and I think most 4th gen owners would be happy with a more traditional bumper as long as it was purpose built. Rather than have the side portions of the bumper extend high like the CBI version I personally would rather trim the plastic. If there was an option for the 4th gen that took inspiration from Relentless fab 5th gen rear you would have people throwing money at you left and right. Great profile, trim the excess plastic off and bring up the departure angle and keep that kind of price point we'd all be happy. FYI I have a set of Demello sliders that would look good with a new rear bumper.. I live locally and my 4th gen isn't my daily driver so you guys can R&D it all you want. *hint hint*

If the bumper didn't extend out so much off of the panels and rear taillight, I would jump on it in a heartbeat. I personally like how the CBI bumper sits flush with everything, but it looks a little clunky to me. However, after taking off my rear bumper to see what fabricators have to work with, there is a lot of space to cover up.
Anyway, the things that I'm looking for are:
- Modern flush design
- Dual swing out option
- Less than $3500

That's the nicest weld together I have seen. Sucks that it is really bulky. I like how it replaces the entire bumper though.

I have a DIY 4X4Labs kit ready for me to weld together so my opinion may not matter as much but...
The 4x4Labs rear bumper already has quite a few boxes checked:
How are you guys wanting the Demello bumper to be any different? All sheet metal, no tube construction? Shorter side profile? Simple bolt-on/no cutting the stock crossmember off?

I'd agree with all these, minus the #3 since I don't have a Gobi ladder. I'd say an option for shovel and propane tank mounts as well. I have all this on my Hitchgate and I haven't ran into any issues with departure angles even tho it sticks out. I also have a Waterport mounted to it.

Wasn't this already discussed a few years ago? It would be great if Demello made a rear bumper for the 4th gen! But what I seem to find out is when people are "Gauging Interest" that usually means it not going to happen.
In any case, put my name down for one. I would also buy a front bumper at the same time if they sold a rear bumper.

Another feature that I think may be a nice touch would be to add a step to the side of the bumper via a cut out to access accessories on the roof rack.

This is a great idea, and one that I’d like to see incorporated as well. Possibly having the “side tubing” that you sometimes see as an option to protect the rear side panels, function as a step???

I agree that the tubing that comes up off the top of the bumper to act as a slider to protect the rear panel does look sweet. As long as the bumper is sleek enough to not make it appear sluggish or give it that "diaper look" . I know that Demello has very streamlined and clean front bumpers, so really looking forward to seeing if they decide to give it a go or atleast mock something up!
