Demello or Shrockworks Front Bumper?

Hey all.

I'm trying to decide which front bumper to get. I've been thinking for the past few months about which style to get. Top tubing or no top tubing. I finally decided to go with no top tubing.

So in Oregon we are required to have a front license plate. The Demello one looks like the winch slot sits a bit lower compared to the Shrockworks one, giving me enough room to mount the license plate without interfering or having to cover the winch slot. Is this true? Any other pros or cons about either bumper?

shrockworks - i like the look better, it covers the "crap" like the washer bottle and other stuff down there better

Yeah I didn't really wanna make a decision because of the plate. I'm sorta leaning towards the Shrockworks one. And I just missed the group buy haha. I was gonna join but couldn't talk my self into it.

Both Demello & Shrockworks make a great product. The Shrockworks seems burlier. Personally I like the 'style' of the a Demello better, but I went against the grain and bought an ARB.

If you are a firm believer of quality over quantity, then I would go with Shrockworks. I have seen both Demello and Shrockworks in person and believe that Shrockworks build a far more superior product.

The down side to Shrockworks is they test your patience. Their turn around is about 4 months whereas CBI/ Demello is only a month or so.

Personally, I like Shrockworks better because the look is more clean and aggressive. The powder coat is a semi-gloss that does not contrast the paint too much.

Here is my current setup. I went with the single bullbar which I do not see many people do.

Don't sweat the license plate issue. It's just a matter of drilling a couple holes in the lower panel if you're running a winch. As far as the tubing, keep in mind that the bumper will much stronger with the tubing. There was a discussion regarding that over on 120 back when the SW bumper was being developed. It was something like 40% stronger with full tubing on top. SW uses heavier gauge steel than DO so it's a little more stout but will also be heavier. SW also has the splash guards which will cover up the washer bottle and tubing so you'll get a cleaner look. They both look great and do their job well so you can't go wrong with either one.

I lucked out with a delivery date 6 weeks after ordering my SW bumper but I've had friends that waited 6-9 months to get theirs. DO has had a record of faster delivery times. Also consider CBI. Great customer service and reasonable lead times.

I opted out of top tubing due to how I think it'd look. I'm not sure all the top tubing would look good. Thoughts?

My grille is plasti-dipped now, so idk.. Haha.

When I was picking a bumper I decided that the SW was too bulky looking and the DO was nice looking but didn't cover enough. I picked the CBI because it was somewhere in between the two size wize, was the cheapest of the three shipped, and I got it within 30 days with custom options.

I just picked up a demello bumper, single hoop. To me the shrockworks looks to bulky, and I really like how my demello fits with the 4th gen's lines.

For the washer bottle, I was able to trip and wrap my fender liners up so it almost completely covers the bottle. You could also just paint it black.

Dawgrunner summarized the options pretty well. It comes down to your needs. If you're just going for looks, pick whichever looks the best to you. If you're going for function, any of the bumpers will provide a better approach angle just with varying amounts of strength.

The hoops will provide more strength and protection than a non hoop bumper. I got the 3 hoops for added strength, safety (spend a lot of time in deer country and the hoops will provide better protection) and the hoops add extra mounting options (I use them for my kayak front straps but you can run limb risers or lights on them as well).

I think I've made my mind up --- Shrockworks it is . Even though I'm slightly impatient.. But it's worth it for a good quality product.

So now I need to revisit whether or not to get the top tubing. I'm really just worried about how well it'd look on my rig. What are your opinions? I know I need to make my own decision here, and I will . No tubing, 1 hoop or 3 hoops ?

I ordered my Shrockworks flat top (with the custom buckets for the 6" Rigid SR LEDs) in August 2013 and didn't receive it until January 2014, but I think it was worth the wait.

I discovered today that SW color matches and it looks AMAZING!!!!! I don't know if you want it black or not or if the other companies offer that, but that sold me on SW. If you didn't know it was a steel bumper you wouldn't have known it was besides the bar.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, pictures and recommendations! I just pulled the trigger and ordered my 3-hoop front bumper from Shrockworks!!

Now I need to forget about it for the next few months so I'll stop hoping it'll be here.

I mean, unless you are doing serious rock climbing in your Runner, the hoops really only serve an aesthetic purpose. But, when you are driving your Runner, it's cool to look down your hood and see the three-hooped-top of your Shrock bumper. No, I currently do not have one on my Runner (and ironically, I am driving out to Shrockworks tomorrow morning to order mine), but I had a Shrock on my previous Xterra and I absolutely loved it (Of course back in 2005, lead time was only two weeks):

Yeah it'd be awesome if someone near me had one. You'd think lots of people in Oregon would have one since we're dense with forests, heavy with the rain and have lots of mountains / rocks / cliffs. I'm sure some people do, just not in my area .

The only reason I can think of for needing the hoops is for some extremely mild brush or if someone backs into/hits me (or God forbid I hit someone else ). But hey, whatever.

Wanna pick up a bumper a drive it over to Oregon for me ?

The hoops serve much more purpose than rock crawling (and honestly I'm not sure how they'd assist you with rocks). They strengthen the bumper, add front end protection against animal strikes, tree limbs and brush (I spend a lot of time in the woods and my headlights would be beat up otherwise) and as extra mounting points for lights, tie downs, limb risers etc...so they add a lot of function.

I also use them as grab handles when I'm crawling out from under the truck.
