Dension Ice Link & the Ipod!

Okay, so after constant harrassment & countless phone calls, Dension supposedly will be putting the new Ice Link Plus adapter into the mail by Friday. They gave me the beta discount price of $179. I think it is normally arount 275 fun tickets regular price.

This is the updated deal which was to be made available by mid-Feb. Supposedly it wil be a single wire connection which charges the ipod and will show text on the 10-speaker, 6-disc JBL currently installed in my sweet, sweet Salsa red 4Runner.

I'll post an update in a week or so but all seems well at the moment.....

PS: this better work or I'll be horn lipping until Christmas. I tried another adapter about a month back & had to uninstall it as it would not work. I'm a good guy, I'm living right.....I want my ipod!

I was looking at getting the USA Spec, but I'm holding out for something that does the text on the head unit, charging the ipod and also allowing use of steering wheel controls.

I suppose it'd be the acme of foolishness to inquire as to whether it works with the NAV as well?

There are currently products that do the text for the NAV systems but they are almost 400

I do have the 2005 Limited (4wd, V6). I was told it would not work with the Nav. I recieved an email this afternoon with shipping confirmation. I am traveling home tomorrow & plan to install it the day it shows (currently indicated as the 14th but jeez I feel like a kid at Christmas & hope it's sooner).

There are 2 different cord options- 1 w/a direct connect & the other with the mount. I plan on using the storage under the A/C so I'm going the direct mount.

Just installed the beta in my 05 with JBL Single Disc sorry to report but no text support. Sound great though. Will check with Dension on Monday about the text support.

doh! I was hoping to get this for my JBL with 6 Disc changer. Let us know how it plays out.

Update

Spoke with Dension on Monday. There is supposed to be a firmware update this week to correct the issues with the text display. I guess that is why it is still beta. Will update after I get the new firmware.

The Nano uses the same interface...so I would think it uses the same Dension unit.

Sorry to be away so long....I was traveling for work and then off to St. John's, Newfoundland to catch a couple Pearl Jam concerts.

I did install the dension unit, everything works with the exception of Text. It requires the occasional ipod reboot as well. This is due to the playlists & steering wheel controls not being recognized. When this does happen, you can only control the volume but all access to features remain available by handling the ipod itself. The reboot resets all access & features.

Dension tells me that (as per AZ-Dave) they do intend to update the firmware soon to include text and also address the need to reboot sometimes.

The sound is great! The drawbacks are a minor pain but I do expect they will be addressed and overall I am pleased.

Fantastic. This unit should do everything I want once they upgrade the firmware to include CD Text on the 6 Disc changer.

Does your 6cd changer still work with the IPod attached?

Yes, the 6CD still works the same. You can hit the CD button twice or toggle through the mode button on the steering wheel. The normal CD reads "CD" on the headunit, the ipod reads "CD 1".
