Denver Area Help?

Hey everyone,

I picked up a pair of 5th gen rear coils for my 3rd gen and was counting on a buddy to help me install them. After 3 weeks of getting blown off I got some shop quotes and they seemed steep for swapping some springs.

So in an effort to learn something new and get my hands dirty is there anyone around the Denver/Boulder area that would be willing to lend me a hand and help me install them? I would happily supply good beers. Unfortunately I do not have any of the tools, but I would be incredibly grateful for some help.

I'm down to help. I'm looking to meet good people into 4runners in the area. I'm in Arvada and do have the tools but only have a crappy gravel driveway to work in (I have installed lift kits on my 3rd gen and my old 2nd gen here so it's easily doable but not ideal).

I've also had a 4crawler 1" body lift sitting in the garage that I haven't had a chance to install yet. Would be nice to have a hand with that. I'm available this Sunday if that works for you. PM me and we can set something up

Also, are you sure the 5th gen coils fit in the 3rd gen? I've just never heard of it being tried before

They fit and are actually pretty comfortable, ran them for a few months before I lifted mine.

I'll be doing some basic maintenance tomorrow morning on my 4runner; oil change, trans fluid drain, grease job, etc. Also have all the tools to swap coils as well. Usually I pull my 4runner into the back yard and wrench in the grass. Shoot me a PM if you're interested, I am just west of the football stadium.

Just so you know OP, it's about 30 minutes total for rear spring install. Very simple stuff If the other two dudes fall through, let me know and I can help.

Pssh, maybe if you're a puss -- I just lift the rear of the truck up with one hand and slap the coils under there with the other. Takes about the same amount of time that I do in bed ... about 12-14 seconds. lane:

Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow morning. Not sure if it will be all day or not yet depends on how the concrete pour goes. And I think next weekend is easter weekend and I have family coming in from out of town.

But let me know if any of you guys ever want to get together for wrenching or wheeling or camping or whatever. I'm usually doing something to (or with) the truck on the weekends if I'm not working

Don’t let these guys mislead you or make you feel bad. I’d never done my rear springs before and it took me a couple of hours.

If you’ve never unhooked your panhard, taken off your sway bar links, etc then jacking up the truck and doing that will probably take longer than 30 minutes

It's all in good fun. John is right though, the first take may take up to 5 hours, or at least it did for me

Big thank you to [MENTION=79826]absalom[/MENTION] for the help installing the coils, fighting with the panhard bar and clearing an inordinate amount of mud and dirt out of my spare tire.

I feel the 5th gen coils improved the ride quite a bit, they handle potholes and bumps much better and feel more controlled overall. And as a bonus provide a nice little rake.
