Denver daystar install help?

Anyone want to help install the Daystar 2.5/1.5 topout (KT09115BK) on an '08 with XREAS? This would be sometime in the next month or so, I don't even have the kit yet, and I'm trying to wait until I get a job so I can get new tires with it and knock out the alignment with the tire install. Just seeing if there's any interest out there.

My buddy should have the space and some tools, and is pretty mechanically inclined, but I'd like to have someone there who has done this type of lift with XREAS if there is anyone willing.

I regret that I can only compensate with beer and pizza at this time.

Hello,
My advice is to ditch the XREAS and go with Toytec, Icon or Radflo. I just put on the Toytec ultimate 3" lift. XREAS is gone and I don't miss it at all.

Thanks, Bruce. Just want some ground clearance, a better stance, and room for new shoes on a budget. Off-roading will be very limited. I've got 60k on her, will probably consider totally swapping everything in another 50k or whenever I replace my next tires.

Pizza and beer is always good compensation. I'm sure someone will be happy to help you out there.

That said, are you planning on tires/alignment first, then lift? If so, you should wait to align until after lifting your truck. Lift changes the suspension geometry and angles, etc. Don't want to do an alignment twice!

It might be cheaper for you to just get a set of Bilstein 5100s + coils the first time around, instead of messing with spacers, and then dealing with upgrade/sagging springs in the future. Just an option, if you have not researched this route before?

Yes, I think we're on the same page. The idea is to wait until I have the tires so I can do the install, then immediately get the tires and alignment.

You're probably right long term. I just figured that if I could do this job with friends, it was an affordable way to get more ground clearance and bigger tires. From what I gathered, getting the 5100's starts to get expensive with UCA's and other things you begin to need. If I'm wrong on that, I'm all ears.

Well, my earlier post dissappeared, but what I essentially said was...

Bilsteins are definitely DIY- no spring compressor needed, and its actually pretty easy- check out this link:

OME Install No Spring Compressor

You shouldnt need new UCAs. About half the people who lift their trucks on here reported they needed new UCAs to get a proper alignment, and the other half said they got by with their stock ones just fine. make of it what you will. Hope that info is useful!

Thanks again - think I will probably stick with DS since I could end up being one of those people who may needs UCA's (and making matters worse, I wouldn't have the knowledge to recognize that I might need them)

Actually, giving this more thought now. Does anyone do 5100's at 2.5 with stock springs up front? I was thinking I could do 1.75 or whatever with FJ springs but didn't know if that would be enough lift, but thinking 2.5 with FJ springs would be too much (and require new UCAs?). As for the rear, I guess it's 5100 + new springs or 5100 + FJ/stock springs + spacer? That is what I gather from searching, not sure if it's correct.
